Endings and beginnings – anniecoops
http://anniecoops.com/2015/04/07/endings-and-beginnings
The thoughts of a nurse with type 1 diabetes. It’s been a tough few weeks and I feel sure it’s not quite over yet but I thought it might be better to write this in the middle of it rather than after it, if you know what I mean. I’m talking about endings and beginnings moving from one job to another. When I was at Roffey Park on my OD practitioner programme I fell in love with the Bridges Model. Of change. What is it that I love? Bridges says there are 3 phases of change:. Ending, losing and letting go.

The thoughts of a nurse with type 1 diabetes. To our presentation on Social media). I am more used to being a more integral part of a conference these days and even though on this occasion I was also a speaker it felt very different. I was there in my own time, rather than as a professional, so that was part of it, but it led me to see the conference through a new lens. Thank you to Dorcas Lambert for the inspiration and courage to write this blog – its been brewing for a while – here. 2013; 10 (3): 80-85.

The thoughts of a nurse with type 1 diabetes. Most of the moves I have made in the last decade have been an evolution of where I was, a natural progression, easy in the simple growth of thinking and skills. This time it’s different. I’m moving to a community provider and trying to use all my new thinking and skills in a completely different way. So I have been thinking about my personal ambitions for the next couple of years and here are my first thoughts:. I will endeavour to support others and create e...

The thoughts of a nurse with type 1 diabetes. I had a complicated teenage years. At 14 nearly 15 I found myself looking after a house and Dad after our Mam had left; Dad was clueless, he didn’t even know how to write a cheque let alone look after all the household affairs. Mam had done it all. I picked up where she left off. You can do it yourself. I would say: ‘Don’t worry you can do this yourself’. Almost everything is possible but some things are a bit harder than others. I would say: ‘Almost everythi...

Good Nurse, Bad Nurse. Saturday, 20 April 2013. Story: I See You. This is the final part of my four-part ICU story. The last word goes to the patient. It’s the worst thing I’ve ever experienced. Only most of it didn’t happen. I can’t get from one side of the room to the other without hanging on the furniture. I don’t want to go out and get asked how I am. I find myself looking through the blinds at the empty street and worrying about who’s out there. Like whatever I was look...Everyone thinks I’m a...
Nurse Stories: A Farewell
http://nursingwriter.blogspot.com/2013/11/a-farewell.html
Good Nurse, Bad Nurse. Monday, 11 November 2013. As my time with Nursing Studies ran out some time ago, I'm long overdue signing off this blog and wishing Nurse Stories a fond farewell. While I move on to other writing projects, this blog will stay online - in a kind of suspended animation - for a time to be determined by Blogger. I hope it will inspire many nurses and nurse writers to come. You won't be able to post comments, however. Thomas Keneally's Daughters of Mars. Read and write on,. All opinions...

My Avatar Talks Values. Newer posts →. The safety of every patient, the value of every penny. January 31, 2014. When I graduated in 1990, I went to work for the Department of Health as a professional statistician. One of my friends asked me:. 8220;What do you actually do all day? Do they give you some ‘rock-hard sums’ to do in the morning and you get to leave when you have finished them? I politely told him that it was a bit different than that (in the usual robust and Anglo-Saxon way that young men do).

Thursday, August 11, 2011. I just spent the morning with Vashti Speer. All I know of her are snippets of her experiences from the year 1907. I happened on to her diary from that year online through the Cherokee Strip Museum (Perry, Oklahoma) and I have read the entire thing this morning. She writes in almost my grandmother's handwriting and almost my grandmother's voice. Many things intrigue me about Vashti. I'm sure there's quite a story there. Much of Vashti's diary is a chronicle of the weather and of...
