Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. January 11, 2016. I need this time to be still for a second. In turns I relish the quiet and wrestle with the solitary assessment of a new year. It’s as if the stage has been cleared for a reckoning. Still though, I try not to get too heavy about it all. I get outside, I workout, I write, I put on dance music as I clean. 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice. About 1 teaspoon of zest. 3/4 cups of water. 1 cup of corn syrup. 1/4 cup of plain greek yogurt.

Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. You are here: Home. It has been 50 years since this land has seen so little water. Our crunchy chunk of the globe has made national news and the Wall Street Journal predicts that almost four billion dollars of agriculture revenue will be lost. And there are other losses, uncounted. Last week, one of our 60 foot trees came down. A deep crack right in the middle of its trunk took away its ability to regroup and grow. The crack was from rot...Water...

Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. So Long, Farewell. May 18, 2016. It’s time to say goodbye. After eight years of blood, sweat, tears, calamity, and yes joy, we are leaving these rocky two acres, this home I’ve christened the Funny Farm, along with other irreverent monikers. But the truth is that I’ve written about and photographed this stake of ours, been frustrated and mesmerized by it, more than any abode I’ve called home, and that is what some might call love. So it was only...

Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. You are here: Home. Archives for Golden Tomatoes. All the Gold in the Sunsets. August 9, 2015. This recipe is so easy and so delicious. It would be good with any tomato, but I really think the golden tomatoes work so well because good ricotta is a little sweet and the tartness of the tomatoes contrasts well with it. Here’s what you’ll need:. Handful of fresh herbs (I used chives and basil). Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window).

Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. You are here: Home. I’m starting to feel the freedom out here as I’ve learned that the road goes both ways here in the county. I am free to have two 1,000 pound pets in my backyard and free to pile their waste into mountainous sculpture. I am free to have my own live band, set off my own fireworks or grow my native grasses without worrying that my neighbors will form a posse. Click to email this to a friend (Opens in new window). Comfort Me with Ruth. Stories of Food, Gardening, and Life. You are here: Home. White Dixie Butter Beans. Eventually, the peach man disappeared. For years it was hard to get a good Texas peach anywhere. This year though, like a perfect storm, the peaches are back. And it is very much due to perfect storms that they are with us. It was storms that brought water but not hail, and storms that came early and not late. Last evening, I didn’t feel like cooking. I looked in the fridge and saw several ...My firs...
