The Guttural Munk: The Best Of 2014 As According To The Guttural Munk
http://thegutturalmunk.blogspot.com/2015/01/the-best-of-2014-as-according-to.html
Wednesday, January 21, 2015. The Best Of 2014 As According To The Guttural Munk. I'm going to skip the usual bouts of self abuse and bullshit that I have been starting my posts with for the last 2 years and just get right to the goods. The year of 2014 was an absolutely outstanding year for music, this is what I liked, in no particular order. I've also included pictures of everything else that I purchased this year because I'm cocky like that. You should probably take notes. Death Metal and its sub genres.

Bargain Bin Bottomfeeders: Pentagram - The Malefice
http://bargainbinbottomfeeders.blogspot.com/2013/10/pentagram-malefice.html
Where Prog meets POG. Monday, October 14, 2013. Pentagram - The Malefice. Being that I’m so into Death Metal, it’s a wonder why I haven’t heard of this. Perhaps it’s because they’re from a country that isn’t really known for contributing to the genre. Unfortunate as The Malefice is some excellent early 90’s Death Metal that deserves to be an honored release from that era. The remaster job is excellent too, as the impact and clarity here surpass even most American and Swedish releases from the time.

Bargain Bin Bottomfeeders: September 2013
http://bargainbinbottomfeeders.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Where Prog meets POG. Wednesday, September 25, 2013. Aeternus - .And So The Night Became. 8230;And So The Night Became was the second Black Metal album I ever bought when I was just 13. I remember being initially reeled in by the ultra-grim, black and red cover. Back then I was rather on the fence about it because of its dreary, repetitive nature. Now, listening to it with mature ears I realize just how much of an overlooked gem it really is. Like Setherial’s Nord, and Emperor’s Anthems,. You could consi...

Bargain Bin Bottomfeeders: Asgard - Outworld
http://bargainbinbottomfeeders.blogspot.com/2013/06/asgard-outworld.html
Where Prog meets POG. Wednesday, June 12, 2013. Apparently, there are 20 bands with the name Asgard, though I'm pretty sure this one is the best. They deliver some killer 80's Power Metal with sweet riffs and hooks. Straightforward stuff without any prog tendencies or shredding, in fact, the techinicality level is pretty average. What really sets this band apart is the absurdly. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. English as a second language. New Wave of Old School Death Metal.

Bargain Bin Bottomfeeders: February 2013
http://bargainbinbottomfeeders.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Where Prog meets POG. Tuesday, February 26, 2013. Hexen - Being and Nothingness. Links to this post. Riot - The Privilege of Power. Overblown sample intros. It's honestly hard to tell how serious Riot were trying to be with the concept, but it only adds to the outrageous mystique. Ok, there are a couple throw-away love songs, but even if you cut those out, you're still left with over 40 minutes of gold. Collecting gifts of metal might. Links to this post. Where Prog meets POG. Friday, April 26, 2013. Svart Crown - Profane. Links to this post. Holy Moses - Terminal Terror. Let my people go. Links to this post. Thursday, April 11, 2013. Dormant Ordeal - It Rains, It Pours. Harkens back to Decap's younger years (except better). You get all the jagged complexity and baffling timing but with warmth and tone that hasn't been present in Death Metal production for over ten years. Have your wake and eat it too.
