In My Opinion: Imaginary Superpowers
http://angikabasant.blogspot.com/2012/07/imaginary-superpowers.html
Saturday, 7 July 2012. When I was graduating from high school I was one those annoying kids who got all her teachers and classmates to write for her in a little journal for posterity. One of my teachers wrote: “Some people watch what happens, others wonder what happened but only a few make things happen. Be the one to make things happen. I know you have it in you.”. I wish I could write like that. If I could, would that be a suitable aspiration? 8 July 2012 at 00:08. 8 July 2012 at 06:37. Thanks Angika f...

In My Opinion: November 2010
http://angikabasant.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Sunday, 7 November 2010. In Exchange for a PhD. A Diwali spent without the whistling of firecrackers, without flaming. Barring the one I drew on the post-it I stuck to my neighbour’s door), without the tinkle of bangles, without a stream of visitors and dry fruit boxes and with eight enthusiastic American friends at a. Held in a chapel (! Would be an appropriate time to reflect on how life has changed recently. To think. I’ll try to not let it dictate that, for as long as I can. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

In My Opinion: February 2013

Wednesday, 13 February 2013. When I looked up from my book and glanced out of the train, we weren’t underground anymore. The window pane had exploded in a shimmer of lights. The glass was covered in beads of water that the moody, impending storm had sent down. And the little drops were lit up in gold by headlights from the cars under the bridge. Tinker Bell’s pixie dust on a grey day. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Of the multiple lines that crease my palm. Some so faint and some so strong. Writing is one o...

Monday, 14 November 2011. You see, The Indian EXPRESS. E-paper is bookmarked on my browser (yes, I will take a while to get to the point). I look at it everyday, sometimes twice a day. The front page scarcely has good news: another bombing, another earthquake, Narendra Modi let off and on a Sadbhavna. The rest of the day was spent fretting about why that. Of Pataudi like I drooled after Stephen Fleming. Then what was it? I would have loved to play Karen Andre in The Night of January 16th. An engrossed au...

The glass was covered in beads of water that the moody, impending storm had sent down. And the little drops were lit up in gold by headlights from the cars under the bridge. Tinker Bell’s pixie dust on a grey day. Just a comment on the terrible things happening in India - we see it more now coz its more visible now. With the RTI ...

In My Opinion: March 2014
http://angikabasant.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, 22 March 2014. A few years ago on one of our annual trips to Cochin, my grandfather drove us to their church and showed us the space of land in the adjoining cemetery that was going to be the family grave. He turned to me laughing and said “We’ll be lying here, will you come visit us? 8221; Being the cry-baby that I am, I told him it wasn’t funny and stomped away to hide the tears pricking my eyes. I know he was also your friend” and the tears came rolling down again. The answer was air. And I ...

In My Opinion: Into Appearances
http://angikabasant.blogspot.com/2013/12/into-appearances.html
Tuesday, 10 December 2013. So here’s where I began. Neil Patrick Harris shot to fame as Barney Stinson in the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Am I the only star-struck one or have people throughout the history of time been fooled by smoke screens? Let’s think a little bit close to home. Have you ever witnessed inexplicable mania for Amitabh Bachchan in an otherwise seemingly sane human being? Have you ever wondered about the cause? Is he the best actor India has produced? In Indian politics at this very mo...
