人の身体組織に存在し、あらゆる細胞に分化できる働きのある多機能性幹細胞は組織に障害が起きると、増殖と分化を行いダメージを受けた組織や臓器を修復する機能を持っています。この機能を応用し、細胞移植を行うことにより組織の再生を行うのが再生医療です。 例えば、幹細胞から心筋細胞を誘導し、これを心不全の心臓に細胞移植して治療することが挙げられます。難治性疾患等の有効な治療法として期待されると同時に安全性を含む様々な課題があり、一部で臨床応用が始まったに過ぎません。 再生医療の分野においては、人の胚から取り出すES細胞の利用について、倫理上の問題が議論されてきました。近年ではiPS細胞の登場により、胎児となる可能性のある胚を私用するという問題は解決されましたが、容易に作成が可能なiPS細胞を利用した非倫理的な研究が進む危険性が指摘されています。 生まれてくる赤ちゃんの病気や障害の有無を調べる出生前診断は、出生直後、あるいは胎児の段階で手術などの治療をする準備としても行われますが、主な目的は染色体遺伝子の病気を見つけることです。 Ethereal テンプレート.
