Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Saturday, December 08, 2012. Devotions on the Greek New Testament. Given the nature of this blog, I was excited when I saw that Zondervan published a scholarly version of what I had been trying to do. Devotions on the Greek New Testament. Note that I received a copy from the publisher for review. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Trying to live the life of a Christian hedonist. View my complete profile.

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: March 2011
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2011_03_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Tuesday, March 29, 2011. John 7:48 Have any of the authorities or the Pharisees believed in him? This is clearly evident in the church today. It started with Rome and the Reformation. You expect to take a corrupt Pope like Leo and threaten him with the Bible? I hope that the illustration is clear. To embrace the ideas in David Platt's Radical. Well, despite the success...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: June 2011

Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Thursday, June 30, 2011. And one called to another and said: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts; the whole earth is full of his glory! I wanted to try out posting in Hebrew, so I thought I'd pick one of my favorite verses. This is one of those verses that is easy to overlook because we have become so accustomed to the language here. Yeah, yeah, we know that God is holy. But what does that mean? But if we get into what this word mean...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: January 2013
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Monday, January 28, 2013. I attended a Dispensational seminary, but am not a Dispensationalist. I have some Covenantal leanings, but I remain firmly credobaptist. I have found that I have more in common with Presbyterians than most Baptists, but I keep seeing comments that "there is no such thing as a Reformed Baptist." Obviously, that is true, but I needed to have some name for what I believed. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: October 2010
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Sunday, October 31, 2010. Matthew 5:12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you. How to blog in the Sermon on the Mount? First, it means that we are to rejoice and be glad when we are persecuted. This seems rather paradoxical. Persecution is n...Secon...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: May 2011
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Tuesday, May 31, 2011. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? This is one of those very simple verses that packs a great punch. This comes after Paul describes what theologians call the ordo salutis. The key phrase does not even have a verb in it. Really that says it all, doesn't it? Now I would...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: December 2010
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Friday, December 31, 2010. Luke 2:50 And they did not understand the saying that he spoke to them. This is the end of one of the more perplexing stories in the gospels. If I had been Joseph I can guarantee that Jesus would have received a spanking for what he did. At the very least, I can tell you that when we got to "what do you want to tell God you're sorry for today? I'm not sure ho...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: September 2013
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Tuesday, September 24, 2013. ESV Gospel Transformation Bible. If you run in the T4G/TGC/Challies/Justin Taylor circles you have certainly heard about the "Gospel-Centered" hermeneutic. Crossway produced this study Bible. But what about a book that seems less practical for living like Leviticus? Take Proverbs 15:15 which reads, All the days of the afflicted are evil, but the cheerful of heart has a continual feast. And being thrilled wh...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: November 2010
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Tuesday, November 30, 2010. What Was the Crime? Matthew 26:65 Then the high priest tore his robes and said, "He has uttered blasphemy. What further witnesses do we need? You have now heard his blasphemy. 65 τότε ὁ ἀρχιερεὺς διέρρηξεν τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτοῦ λέγων· ἐβλασφήμησεν· τί ἔτι χρείαν ἔχομεν μαρτύρων; ἴδε νῦν ἠκούσατε τὴν βλασφημίαν·. Frankly, if He truly had blasphemed then He would have deserved death based on the Law. If anyone c...

Thoughts of a Freed Captive: Real Hope
http://jasonchamberlain.blogspot.com/2011/08/real-hope.html
Thoughts of a Freed Captive. Meanderings about my journey with Jesus. Wednesday, August 17, 2011. 1 Thessalonians 4:13 But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, that you may not grieve as others do who have no hope. Of course, hope is big business. That concept got someone elected. It all begins and ends with Christ. He also is everything in betwee...
