Philip Thomas (b.1972, North Devon) specialises in performing new and experimental music, including both notated and improvised music. He places much emphasis on each concert being a unique event, designing imaginative programmes that provoke and suggest connections. In 2014 and Small Preludes. In 2009, the UK premiere of Long Piano (Peace March 11). Having co-edited and contributed to the first major study of Wolff's music, Changing the System: the Music of Christian Wolff. Philip's latest CD release, Beat Generation Ballads. Is out now on Huddersfield Contemporary Records. Michael Finnissy's Beat Generation Ballads. Composed for Philip and premiered by him at the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival 2014, won the award for Best Solo/Duo work at the British Composer Awards 2015. And is paired on the CD with Finnissy's First Political Agenda. Andrew Clements, writing in The Guardian. Over 2016-2017, Philip is working with Quatuor Bozzini. Maciunas Musical Scoring Systems.
