Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Sunday, May 5, 2013. Spring Wildflowers in Pole Canyon, Great Basin National Park. Right off I started having fun photographing so many wildflowers! Here are most of the ones that are out, along with a link to a more detailed description on A Plant a Day. A blog I started years ago but rarely update due to time constraints. Tiny, tiny flowers: slender phlox (Microsteris gracilis). Isaac liked riding...

http://desertsurvivor.blogspot.com/2015/07/family-hike-up-south-fork-baker-creek.html
Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Friday, July 17, 2015. Family Hike up South Fork Baker Creek. The crying seemed contagious. But we gathered up our strength and set off, and before long were seeing neat things, like this woodpecker, a yellow-bellied sapsucker. This swallowtail was visiting the columbine as we walked under the aspens. Desert Girl was a little tired, but we bribed her and cajoled her, and she kept going. We crested t...

Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Friday, July 24, 2015. A Quick Trip to Salt Lake City. Desert Girl recently got her kindergarten shots (she is so looking forward to kindergarten! Before Salt Lake, we went and visited our neighbor who has moved to the Wasatch Front. It was so good to see her. She's our surrogate grandma. Our little paleontologist also really enjoyed the sand pit. The next morning we went to Hogle Zoo, arriving just...

Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Sunday, May 31, 2015. The other day as we were driving I noticed these two little pronghorn. They were so cute. Pronghorn mate in the fall, and every spring we see little ones around (if we're lucky enough to be in the right place at the right time). Eventually they ran off. I bet the next time we see them the young will look appreciably larger. Wednesday, May 27, 2015. And then the wheelbarrow race.

Desert Survivor: August 2015
http://desertsurvivor.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Sunday, August 30, 2015. Bike riding and hiking under the almost full moon. Friday night was the night before the full moon, which means the moon rises before the sun sets. So I got the kids to go with me for a bike ride (while my husband attended a school event, bless him). The moon was already quite high as we started out. I had Desert Boy pose to hold the moon. Friday, August 28, 2015. This year ...

Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Tuesday, April 28, 2015. T-Ball Comes to Our Valley. Our friend Beth decided to start a t-ball team in the valley, the first one ever. A bunch of four to seven year-olds turned up the first night to find out what it was all about. Beth had enlisted the help of assistant coaches. They led the kids in running around the gym (the first night was very cold so practice was held indoors) and stretching.

Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Wednesday, August 5, 2015. When he was ready to leave, we decided we would ride to the edge of town with him. And then Matt was off to finish his grand adventure. He kept a blog. As we were driving to the airport for our trip, we passed two big (20 people) groups of bike riders heading in our direction. We are along the Western Express biking route. Desert Survivor: February 2015
http://desertsurvivor.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Exploring the desert and what it takes for plants, animals, and people to survive (with a touch of humor). Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Quick Run in Cathedral Gorge State Park. On our way to Las Vegas, my husband and I stopped at Miller Point, part of Cathedral Gorge State Park. It was a lovely February day, and we needed to stretch our legs. So I challenged my husband to a little run. The badlands scenery made it extra enjoyable. I could spend so much time here, looking at all the erosion patterns.
