Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare's History: Richard III. My kingdom for a horse! Richard III has such incredible control over every aspect of his life, and even controls the lives of others around him. He has a brilliant mind and is master at using language and betrayal to his advantage. The only real challenge Richard faces in the play is when another young man who is good with words converses with him. Richard’s only vulnerability is exposed during his final moment, in battle. AP Literature: Shakespeare's Comedy: The Taming of the Shrew

http://aplitks.blogspot.com/2008/06/shakespeares-comedy-taming-of-shrew.html

Sunday, June 08, 2008. Shakespeare's Comedy: The Taming of the Shrew. Unknit that threatening unkind brow, /. And dart not scornful glances from those eyes, /. To wound thy lord, thy king, thy governor: /. It blots thy beauty as frosts do bite the meads, /. Confounds thy fame as whirlwinds shake fair buds, /. And in no sense is meet or amiable. /. A woman moved is like a fountain troubled, /. Muddy, ill-seeming, thick, bereft of beauty; /. And while it is so, none so dry or thirsty /. But that our soft c...

AP Literature: Sound and Sense #251 The Sound of Night - Maxine Kumin

Sunday, March 30, 2008. Sound and Sense #251 The Sound of Night - Maxine Kumin. This stanza the speaker is now focused on the future - they are settled in, maybe a little accustomed to the noises, although still fearful. They are reassured by the definite coming of the "sweet" sun which will save them, and they concentrate on this to keep their minds off of the ever-present night sounds. Sunday, March 30, 2008. Just thought I would see what impressions you had of the religious quality to the work (obviou...

Monday, October 22, 2007. Acrobat and The Handmaid's Tale. Criticizes the hypocritical teachings of organized religion: "I must be an acrobat, to talk like this and act like that.". And I'd join the movement if there was one I could believe in. Yeah I'd break bread and wine if there was a church I could receive in" points towards the author's religious beliefs, or rather, lack of belief. This song relates incredibly well with Margaret Atwood's The Handmaid's Tale. Nolite te bastardes carborundorum.

AP Literature: January 2008

Saturday, January 26, 2008. I managed to find one symbol in Conrad's Heart of Darkness. That we hadn't already discussed fully in class, and it is the Congo River. Obviously, the river is what takes Marlow into the heart of darkness, it is his journey, the path he takes into his inner soul. However, why does Marlow rarely step foot on the land, the actual soil of the Congo? An Image of Africa: Racism in Conrad's "Heart of Darkness". Saturday, January 26, 2008. Trying to find one. In my mind's eye. ".

Saturday, June 7, 2008. Taming of the Shrew-Passage Analysis. Petruchio is desperately trying to break Kate and have her conform to society's standards of what a woman and wife should be; and, the scene where Katherine and Petruchio are riding into town and he is trying to convince her the bright sun they see is actually the moon is humorous but also alarming. http://ssnickel.blogspot.com/2008/06/history-richard-iii.html

Tuesday, June 3, 2008. History- Richard III FINISHED. I love the little chart for this book with the little cartoon people on it. Passage- Act 1, Scene 4:. Why looks your grace so heavily today? O, I have pass'd a miserable night,. So full of ugly sights, of ghastly dreams,. That, as I am a Christian faithful man,. I would not spend another such a night,. Though 'twere to buy a world of happy days,. So full of dismal terror was the time! What was your dream? I long to hear you tell it. As we paced along.

Sunday, March 30, 2008. Since I haven't done one since the last blog assignment, here's a rant. I've been able to look at every single one and write an intelligent analysis of it without struggle. Now that I've had the chance to point out to myself that I'm doing really well with completing this assignment, I'm going to go do my Portrait blog, and then I will be done =). Tuesday, June 3, 2008. Comedy- The Taming of the Shrew FINISHED. Passage: Act 4, Scene 3-. The more my wrong, the more his spite appears:. What, did he marry me to famish me? Beggars, that come unto my father's door,. Upon entreaty have a present aims;. If not, elsewhere they meet with charity:. But I, who never knew how to entreat,. Nor never needed that I should entreat,. Am starved for meat, giddy for lack of sleep,. With oath kept waking and with brawling fed:. He does it under name of perfect love;.

AP Lit: Macbeth-Reflection

http://maryliterature.blogspot.com/2008/06/macbeth-reflection.html

Saturday, June 7, 2008. This play is upsetting because you just cannot help but feel sorry for Macbeth. He was a man that just wanted to achieve greatness and become an admired and respected figure, but with the presence of negativity and ill-intentions he was steered in a completely wrong direction to lead him to that path. Macbeth had no idea that his future would be so dire, even with the warnings from the three witches, which parallels people that disregard signs that forewarn them of the people that...

Wednesday, November 7, 2007. Last Blog, Handmaid's Tale Quote. Last blog. yes! This passage I found interesting, right at the end of Chapter 7. (Page 40). A story is like a letter. Dear You. I'll say. Just you. Without a name. Attaching a name attaches you. To the world of fact, which is riskier, more hazardous: who knows what the chances are out there, of survival, yours? I will say you, you. Like an old love song. You. Can mean more than one. I'm not in any immediate danger, I'll say to you. As D-503 t...

Never again was I to blend into the precise mechanical rhythm, never to sail on the serene mirror-like sea. My fate was to burn forever, to rush hither and yon, searching for some corner to hide my eyes - forever, until I found the strength at last to go through." (82). I found it interesting that both in Anthem. References are made to eternal damnation in a sense. In Anthem. We - Passage Selection.

Sunday, January 27, 2008. I was within a hair’s-breadth of the last opportunity for pronouncement, and I found with humiliation that probably I would have nothing to say. This is the reason why I affirm that Kurtz was a remarkable man. He had something to say. He said it. . . . He had summed up—he had judged. ‘The horror! 8217; He was a remarkable man". Even in death, Kurtz has more of an influence than most people living. In class we discussed sanity and the lack thereof, and whether or not Kurtz was sa...

Okay, this is going to be the best poetry blog imaginable. Mostly, of course, because I fully believe this excellent poetry blog will raise my grade 1.6% or so, giving me that final grade I need for the honors diploma. We'll see, haha.
