Wednesday, December 3, 2014. Race Report: Barkley Fall Classic 50K. It's been a bit since the running of the Inaugural Barkley Fall Classic. Up and up we all went. I didn't see much running up Bird Mountain, and with the 14 switchbacks, there were plenty opportunities to see ahead and behind where I was. It was a bit slow going up but I wasn't to concerned, I knew once we crested the top it would thin more as it was down hill for a bit. I no less continued to press on for what seemed like an eternity.

To get to Elk Rock Island (unless you have a boat), you first have to go to Milwaukie's recently improved Spring Park. Take the trail toward the Willamette River. The short, dirt trail leads through the woods to a low, rocky area which - during the winter high water months - is actually underwater. Hence, the name, Elk Rock Island.
