Commissioned to redesign the interpretation after the building had been re-built. The popular visitor attraction of Morwellham Quay near Tavistock, West Devon. Natural England asked us to devise a set of interpretive elements to make use of the site's assets from their interpretation plan. Three tactile 'play sculptures' for a country park on the banks of the river Medway. Shepway District Council has made many changes to improve the amenity value of the eastern part of the Royal Military Canal.

Fired Images – Sustainable Durable Signage

Lava stone has been used for roadside signage in France for over a century. Michelin plaques were to be found throughout towns and villages from the end of the First World War onwards. Some milestones and many signposts and street signs can still be seen today and are still in good condition. Initially used for the cladding of public buildings, ‘enamelled extruded stoneware’ used with the Fired Image process, gives excellent results for all forms of signage and architectural features. The cost is a little lower than that of Lava Stone and its slimness means it can be more easily set into information boards, benches or wall fixtures. Natural, Sustainable, Durable Signage. There are two options for the substrate ‘Lava Stone’ (a slab of volcanic stone cut from a quarry) and ‘Stoneware’ (an industrial grade ceramic tile). Each has its own special qualities and advantages but the integrity and durability of the fired image remains the same. Fired Image signs and frescos are screen printed by hand using vitreous enamels onto a slab of solid stone or ceramic tile. These are then fired in a kiln to create the final image.
