There are other factors influencing wolf size. Wolves' prey is generally hoofed animals from small deer to larger elk and bison. They sometimes hunt in groups to kill larger prey. Even though they use groups, wolf size is still a factor in the ability to take on prey. Larger wolves are generally found where prey is larger; smaller wolves are found where prey is smaller. There are two species of wolf: the red wolf and the gray wolf. The red wolf has no subspecies. The gray wolf has 14 subspecies: 5 in North America, 9 in Eurasia. Subspecies are determined using ten dimensions of their skull. Wolves weigh from 35 to 135 pounds. Their color ranges from white to gray to brown or even black. (Gibson 10). Gray Wolves vary in characteristics like size and color but they are recognized as a single species partially because of their distinctive skulls. (Fuller 11).

The Ocean Food Chain. First we will talk about the producers, or the plants. There are two kinds of plants found in the ocean: microscopic plants that float around and bigger plants such as seaweed that grow up from the ground. These bigger plants provide a habitat for other organisms. (Kraynak 83). Day, Trevor. Oceans, Revised Edition. New York: Facts On File, Inc., 2008. Print. Kraynak, Joe, and Kim W. Tetrault. There is a new state-of-the-art collar that can be placed on wild wolves. When one needs to physically examine the wolf, they can send a radio signal to the collar to inject one of two sleeping darts that are attached. This drugs the wolf and causes him to fall to the ground. (Gibson 7). He was a "dispersal" wolf meaning he had left the pack of his birth and was finding his own territory. He had found a mate and may soon be the father of some pups. (Gibson 9). Site Design: Ardriondree Software.
