Just another morning in Arkles Bay, no while walking the kids to school a local resident happened upon something out of the ordinary. The tall ships fleet was offshore from arkles and scattered throughout the bay between Whangaparaoa and Rangitoto. The majestic sight was added to by a number of smaller boats and one of the navy vessels who flanked the much larger wooden sailing ships. More information can be found .[HERE]. Arkles bay has 3 access points, the primary access is from Whangaparaoa Town via Wade River. Road, then Cochrane Avenue. The second acess is via a tight windy road called Arkles drive, just east of Whangaparaoa Town. This Small road is a one way entry to Arkles Bay. The third albiet (longer route) is via Wade River Road, then into Ferry Road, a scenic drive for tourists winding down through the bush, then onto MacKenzie avenue. About 2 hours either side of high tide. Held between spouses from time to time.

Summer must be officially here at Arkles Bay. Looking out over the beach this morning the swim platform has returned to its usual spot just inside the 5knot buoys mid beach. It was also a special treat to enjoy the morning walk watching the dolphins playing in the water just outside the bay, while the local pets played fetch in the shallow water followed by the occasional owner retrieving the ball or stick that the dog gave up on. Overnight Storms Lash Arkles Bay. Storms hit the region last night, causing power surges and brownouts as far afied as Whangarei. Arkles Bay didnt escape the southerly wind, which in conjunction with high tides, bashed the bay, washing away parts of the breakwater, and taking a large 'bite' out of the foreshore, undermining and corroding the grassy area by the beach. Residents are again battening down the hatches as the forecast for tonight is similar to last night, with high winds and high tides.
