The Further Adventures...: Moab to Boulder
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2011/01/moab-to-boulder.html
Saturday, January 1, 2011. I drove a few overlooks and did a teeny hike but didn’t have time for the entire Rim Rock Drive. The next part of the drive was a little challenging, the wiper fluid wasn’t working for a while and the windshield was streaked. I got to Boulder after dark, but not too much after dark. 375 miles today – and friends, wine and stew were waiting! Plus, the friends were interested in learning piffle! January 12, 2011 at 7:44 AM. January 12, 2011 at 1:30 PM. Mekong River, Laos. I set u...

The Further Adventures...: Boulder Days
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2011/01/boulder-days.html
Monday, January 3, 2011. I know that Bob and Cynthia looked at many places before deciding on this one; their embrace of Buddhism came after their move, and it turned out that Boulder is a great place for that. It was interesting to see where the various ingredients come from and of course to know that they are harvested with fair wages and sustainability – wouldn’t it be fun to travel the world and sustainably source something? Next was Chautaqua, a conference center that had some nature paths – w...

The Further Adventures...: Crossing the Craton
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2011/01/crossing-craton.html
Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Before moving on to my new audio book, I had a Lewis and Clark audio book to listen to. I had it all through my time in Morocco but somehow it seemed too out of context to listen to it there. One of the things I noted is that when Lewis returned from his journey he experienced culture shock – although he didn’t call it that. I could relate! I’m still glad I stopped, though I slipped and fell in the mud! It was wonderful to see her, and the B&B in Columbus was very nice. I realiz...

The Further Adventures...: A Farewell Trip - Part II
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2011/01/farewell-trip-part-ii.html
Friday, January 21, 2011. A Farewell Trip - Part II. On to San Francisco! And as I got downstairs at the airport BART station, there were announcements that trains were delayed due to a recent earthquake in the area. I checked the internet while I waited and realized that recent meant minutes before! I’ll just have to come back soon! On Saturday, Rose and I rode bikes to and across the Stanford campus to see the Hanna House, a Frank Lloyd Wright gem. Did I not know about it? But after that we rode around...

The Further Adventures...: August 2009
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html
Saturday, August 1, 2009. A Farewell to Chapter Three. Elisa was going to come up Sunday night for a day but decided it was too long a trip for too short a time, so instead we scheduled a long phone call, and I accompanied myself on a walk on the beach, a bike ride, and a stroll through the village. Rain (first since June? Rose got to New York last week – Rose! So good to see Rose, though our time was way too brief. Be still my heart! He pitched a no-hitter while I was in Morocco, too. Mekong River, Laos.

The Further Adventures...: Retreat and Renewal
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2011/01/retreat-and-renewal.html
Wednesday, January 19, 2011. Now I’ll close the book on 2010 – and at some point will reopen it to chronicle my Vietnam trip and Amtrak Across America! I’ll be starting another blog in the meantime. In the Philippines I just couldn’t write about being there and also my travels in the off-season. Will I be able to in Armenia? Good old rock and roll. I saw other friends for lunch, dinner and coffee in New York, and saw the Rockefeller Center tree and skated in Central Park. Hosted Steve, Elisa and fami...

The Further Adventures...: January 2011

Sunday, January 23, 2011. A Farewell Trip - Part IV. Every year at year-end, Martha and I list our personal awards, in categories such as best book, best movie, best trip, best weekend, best new place, best new person, best new discovery, and most important goal accomplished. We usually do this in the course of a long phone conversation. This was a chance to do it in person! It was still a long conversation. And then I was looking at the paper and I noticed that Rodney Yee, the star of the yoga DVDs that...

The Further Adventures...: April 2009
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 30, 2009. More than One Night in Bangkok. I was tired, but may as well get used to the time rather than give in to jet lag! 8211; it contains the Emerald Buddha’s other outfits and some building chunks pre-restoration. I should talk about the King. He is beloved! The photo in the April 24 entry is from that tea. It was everything it should have been – we stayed for hours! Tuesday, April 28, 2009. To Wat Pho, Bangkok’s largest and oldest temple complex. Note – when entering a Buddhis...

The Further Adventures...: July 2009
http://travelsintheoffseason.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Monday, July 20, 2009. My sister decided she wanted the furniture, so I got another driver and went back and bought it – that was stressful, but now that it’s in the new apartment it looks great, and I want some Indonesian furniture for my own new apartment! Of course, I don’t know when or where or what that will be, and I already have a lot of rugs to incorporate, so I am getting way ahead of myself. How do you get ready for an overnight flight that leaves at 1:00 am? Sunday, July 19, 2009. Then again, ...

The Further Adventures...: October 2010

Monday, October 25, 2010. Old Rag and Old Richmond. Elisa’s daughter Jenna is in a hiking club, and one of its summer trips was to Old Rag, a well-known hike in the Shenandoah National Forest. Elisa asked if I could come a day earlier than originally planned so I could come along on the hike, and I am so glad I did! The same weekend, we drove down to Richmond to drop Jenna off at Latin camp. Another state capital – I was glad to come along for the ride! Our last stop (one of the park rangers had told us ...
