Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. STADE MALHERBE CAEN (Stade Michel d'Ornano). It was that time again when my mate and I sought out a jaunt to across Europe to take in as many games as possible in the space of seven days, and as cheaply as possible. This year it involved three countries, two I'd never visited before. France was the first destination. A very cheap flight to Paris-Beauvais Airport. That was neither in Paris nor Beauvais). Then a 90 minute bus transfer into the city. We didn't have any).

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. BALA TOWN (Maes Tegid). Gary Speed 1969 - 2011. To be honest, football seemed quite irrelevant today as en-route to Bala the news broke on the radio that Gary Speed had died. For an all too brief period, I had the pleasure of seeing Gary Speed play for Everton and fullfilling every Evertonian's dream of going from the Goodison terraces to wearing the famous royal blue shirt. Rest in peace Blue. Onto the trivial matter of a game of football. It was another "Sunday bonus...

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. ABBEY HEY (The Abbey Stadium). It was a short journey down the M56 for today's entertainment as Abbey Hey took on Wigan Robin Park in a North West Counties League Division One game. I had no special plans in place for today, but after scanning the fixture lists this 1st v 2nd clash fitted the bill perfectly. The stadium has cover down the one side of the ground, with the seating at either end of a terrace. It was a beautiful sunny day today but there was a chill in the...

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. STAMFORD AFC (Kettering Road). For today's journey it was a trip to the town of Stamford which, according to their tourism website, claims to be the "finest stone town in England" The town is in Lincolnshire and stands on the River Welland. Stamford AFC were taking on FC United of Manchester in the FA Trophy. However, the most important reason, as a groundhopper, is that the days of Stamford's Kettering Road ground appear to be numbered, so this was a "vulture job" for me!

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. SHILDON AFC (Dean Street). I was back on the FA Cup trail today with a visit to Shildon, a town that is considered to be "the cradle of the railways" due to the fact it's population grew dramatically when the Stockton and Darlington Railway, who owned the land, established workshops there in the 19th century. There is a locomotion museum in town and the football club's badge has a train as part of it's design. The club is also nicknamed The Railwaymen. A defensive error gi...

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. NORTHERN LEAGUE DOUBLE (Seaham and Stokesley). After two days in Mid Wales, the Bank Holiday football continued in the North East of England. 11am, Monday 27th August 2012. Northern League Division Two. Seaham Red Star 0-5 Ryhope Colliery Welfare. It was an early start for early for all concerned but Seaham were still half asleep as Ryhope found themselves two goals to the good after fifteen minutes. They did have a very early chance but it flashed just wide. It was south ...

http://agroundhoppersdiary.blogspot.com/2012/11/knaresborough-town-manse-lane.html
Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. KNARESBOROUGH TOWN (Manse Lane). Today was a trip to North Yorkshire and the delightful spa town of Knaresborough, a town which is mentioned in the Domesday Book, and which grew out of trade to service it's castle which dates from around 1100. 65279; There are some cracking alehouses in the town centre and as, like last week, the train was taking the strain, it allowed me to wander around and seek out some of the best. Elliott Broughton equalised for Louth after 68 minutes...

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. HIGHGATE UNITED (The Coppice). After an abortive attempt back in February, I finally made it to The Coppice, on Tythe Barn Lane, the home of Highate United. There was no danger of a waterlogged pitch today as it was a fine, if chilly, spring afternoon. Highgate United were formed in 1948 in the Highgate area of Birmingham, but are now based in the Solihull district of Shirley. Shirley Town's ground, is just around the corner from The Coppice). Today Highgate were up agains...

Damage in the Box! Blog A to Z. HASTINGS UNITED (The Pilot Field). I decided to end my (English) season of 'hopping' with a 'proper' journey. I looked through the many grounds I needed to visit in the south, at either Step 3 or 4, then see if I could get a deal on the train. I popped Hastings in to the search engine and it came up with a ridiculously cheap price, so it was to East Sussex I made my way today. Celebratory was hardly the word I would have used to describe my mood as I travelled down on the ...
