This piece was created to show how Deer are considered messengers to the gods in Shinto, especially Kasuga Shrine in Nara Prefecture. In this culture, they believe a white deer had arrived from Kashima Shrine as its divine messenger. It has become a symbol of the city of Nara. To illustrate each of these views, I chose to use natural symbolism. Butterflies are often symbols of messengers or spirit realm in some Asian cultures. Lighting the way, divine light.

9 Sons of the Dragon. Ink and Digital Color. Illustration / Motion Graphic. This piece was created to tell the story of The 9 Sons of the Dragon, a Chinese legend. In the story, each son had a unique appearance and purpose in daily life. They are, in order:. The eldest son, is often depicted as a dragon tortoise; the hard shell of the turtle represents resilience, longevity and good fortune. The second son, controls the water element. The fourth son, is the guardian of justice and righteousness.

Duality Pt. 2 [Left Piece]. This piece is the left side of a diptych [Barn Owl]. The two facing pieces were created to show the views of the California Newuks, who believed that after death the brave and virtuous became Great Horned Owls - while the wicked were doomed to become Barn Owls. To illustrate each of these views, I chose to use natural symbolism. Found near both owls, is a symbol of duality. The flower shown with the Barn Owl (left piece), is toxic and a symbol of the forsaken.

On top of the world. What is all this about silence or stillness? I have tried to paint this again and again over the last few years and some of the results can be seen on my web page amnyland.dk. Many of my motifs are from the nature, because I can, in short moments, also experience this stillness in nature. Often I have felt alone when beeing with other people, not lonely but alone. But strangely when I’m in the mountains alone I can be overwhelmed by the connectedness to everything. On top of the world.
