OLD BLOG: Whim
http://lpurnell.blogspot.com/2012/09/whim.html
Artwork and miscellany of Lana Purnell. Wednesday, September 5, 2012. I like the idea of a whim. How does it come to you? What piques someone to follow the whim further? I would guess instinct. Can instinct be wrong? Sometimes. I think, on a large enough scale, enough whims will have continuity. So- trust, doubt, a path, many paths, obstruction, questions. I have heard, "paint what you want to paint and the rest will follow." I want to make that leap. An old professor of mine, Clifford Wun, s...The Scien...

OLD BLOG: universal truth, man
http://lpurnell.blogspot.com/2012/09/universal-truth-man.html
Artwork and miscellany of Lana Purnell. Universal truth, man. Tuesday, September 4, 2012. Is art one size fit all? Is there a universal truth about what art should be? Well I want to say yes, but if there is, it's so broad that it encompasses all of it, in fact, validating everything ever created. So in turn personal truths are created which are only fragments of fragments so we can all stay afloat even in our limited pool of existence. Did you get that from Wayne's World? OLD BLOG: April 2012
http://lpurnell.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Artwork and miscellany of Lana Purnell. Thursday, April 12, 2012. A take on Kaneda, I wanted to make him look younger (I mean he really is like 15), and he usually wants to take everything head on, but I wanted to draw him angrily hesitating. Fun Size: Drain Stop
http://thefunsize.blogspot.com/2010/01/drain-stop.html
Friday, January 15, 2010. I always wanted to paint this old plug! It belongs with my parents laundry tub in Buffalo, where I first noticed its inherent beauty a couple of years ago. This past October, with only a week to go for the show, I pulled out my old under-painting and finished this little painting in a couple of days. We included it in the affinity show as a smaller work, and happily became a few peoples' favorite piece from the show. 4 x 55 inches. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Fun Size: Pound Cake
http://thefunsize.blogspot.com/2010/01/pound-cake.html
Sunday, January 10, 2010. This is a pound cake! I baked this before I photographed it and painted it- it was incredibly unglamorous (compared to finished painting), but delicious. Anyways- this was the final painting made for our October show. We'll be sure to keep you posted whenever something happens. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Where credit is due. Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Painting #11 for Affinity. This is the most textural painting made so far. Whenever your subject allows you to create a solid mix of transparency and thick opaque applications, take advantage of it! Painting this way is fun, and forces you to think about a singular use of shape and color as a means to immediate drawing. Rembrandt and other masters used this method to achieve stunning results. Lana and I always love looking at his pieces, and. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

OLD BLOG: March 2009
http://lpurnell.blogspot.com/2009_03_01_archive.html
Artwork and miscellany of Lana Purnell. Saturday, March 21, 2009. Megalomaniac Dennis as Julius Caesar. I guess this is Dennis as he wishes he were. Hehehe. I had a few ideas of how to do this. first it was Pedobear Dennis (sticking his head in a painted cutout like at a carnvival, not knowing what pedobear was), and then Dennis the Tengu, but Caesar it was. I finished it in one. Posted by Lana Purnell. Friday, March 20, 2009. St Paulie.à la Dee. Sweet Dee from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. In my fr...

Fun Size: December 2009
http://thefunsize.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Monday, December 14, 2009. Painting #12 for Affinity. Lana and I were definitely attracted to this object, it's almost hard to say why, it was just something that resonated with us. We completely changed the coloration, the original light was orange and relatively warn looking. Done with two controlled wet layers, not much in the way of glazing happening here. Oil on MDF 18" by 13". Tuesday, December 8, 2009. Painting #11 for Affinity. Is broadly about everyday objects and their relationship to our lives.
