Fused glass is an exciting medium; the layering of colors and interaction of metals and other media within the glass creates new and sometimes unexpected results. Most of my figures are made with needle felted wool (a process that involves poking a small barbed needle into fine loose wool roving. The needle forces the fibers to bind together and gradually create a form). A finished dog portrait/sculpture on average can take 6-9 hours from the construction of the wire armature base to finishing the fine details. Fused Glass - Decor. Primarily an abstract painter, I decided to venture into glass about 8 years ago after completing a series of paintings on several layers of plexiglas (example below). The plexiglas paintings had parts of the composition on each layer which was then sandwiched to form the finished work. I wanted to expand on the idea of making a functional form with a similar look to the layered acrylic paintings and subsequently found myself experimenting with fused glass.
