Penny's Blog: Cultural Capital and young people, including London Rioters
http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/cultural-capital-and-young-people.html
Sunday, August 21, 2011. Cultural Capital and young people, including London Rioters. It is about time I did another blog about Cultural Capital. This is the topic I have written about in the past and it is about I am forever trying to get policy makers to recognise the value, in more than monetary terms of culture and creativity. So why is Cultural Capital so valuable and how do we measure it? We could set up spaces where disconnected young people could dance, play music, do visual and craft arts where ...

http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
Thursday, August 16, 2012. Pathways to Sports and Arts Success. During the Post Mortem phase of the Olympic Games there has been a lot of discussion about why some sports do better than others. In the discussions the word “Pathways” is sometimes used. The thinking goes something like this:. If young people do not have exposure to a sport ( start of the. 8216;pathway’), we will never know if they are good or not. Or if they are going to be a champion or an Olympic Games medal winner. http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2012/08/creative-spaces-and-older-adult.html
Friday, August 10, 2012. Creative spaces and the Older Adult. Over about 20 years I have been involved with groups setting up Creative Spaces for people with Psychiatric or intellectual disabilities. These space have been extremely important ways to give people a place to go that will give individuals somewhere where they can be creative. They are also Third Places. Now that I am semi retired I think it is time to set up similar places for the older adults. I don't think so. View my complete profile.

Penny's Blog: June 2013
http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 23, 2013. Death of organised sport, particularly professional sport. From Roman times on, it has been recognised that the “masses” can be kept in line only as long as they are given diversions particularly “bread and circuses [1]. Now this pattern is beginning to change. Something is happening that is altering the habits of individuals and groups and is leading to the disengagement of the masses from sport, both as audience and as participants. The first thing that is happening is that audie...

Penny's Blog: London Riots
http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2011/08/london-riots.html
Saturday, August 13, 2011. Thank you for the comment a few days ago and the request that I write a blog on the London Riots. While there are never any excuses for looting or riots, especially like those in London and other part of England, there could be reasons and there could be lessons for us to note. There are reasons for peaceful protest and politicians recognising that poverty and lack of jobs are not OK in countries where there is plenty of food and resources. With inequality comes a break down of...

Penny's Blog: Women on Boards
http://pennypublisherblog.blogspot.com/2012/11/women-on-boards.html
Monday, November 12, 2012. There is still a glass ceiling when it comes to having women on boards of New Zealand publicly listed companies. (And I suspect many other countries). Only one in twelve people on our boards are women. This is the average number onr all the NZ Stock Exchange Boards and there appears to be little that can be done to change the reluctance of existing Boards to open their doors to women. There are some exceptions, but not enough. There was a lot of support at the meeting, but it w...
