The Babbling Conch: I survived! Am I Done Yet?
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2013/01/i-survived-am-i-done-yet.html
Am I Done Yet? Let's start with the pleasant view from the hotel room. Very nice. Before I headed out yesterday, I made sure that I was all layered up. Long johns? It's actually been really mild here (in the 50s), but I was more worried about getting cold in the conference center. When was the last time I used one of these.what do you call them.oh yeah.irons? I walked out of my room and, what's this? A newspaper. I can't remember the last time I saw one of these at my doorstep either. I still felt stupid...

The Babbling Conch: People Watching
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2012/10/people-watching.html
We weren't sure if Hurricane Sandy would put a damper on things here, but we should have known that the answer to that would have been a resounding "no! Rain or otherwise. The early evening brought drizzle throughout and gusts of winds in certain spots, but it was surprisingly wind-free on Duval St (the main thoroughfare for this insanity). You can see that while it was pretty calm here on Smather's Beach, it was down right nasty by Sunset Pier. And where the live-aboard boats are anchored - barf). Artif...

The Babbling Conch: Hiking!
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2013/11/hiking.html
I just discovered that we can see the fountain. From our balcony (it goes off every hour). Friday, we headed to see Amanda and Kevin, formerly of Solstice. They lived in Arizona when we did, but we didn't actually meet until we crossed paths off the island of Martinique. Now they live 25 minutes from us, so we headed over and ate some pizza. They had a nice sunset from their place. Saturday was the Festival of Arts and Crafts. She didn't make them, but we appreciated the gesture. About 45 minutes from ou...

The Babbling Conch: First Key West Hash - Oy
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2012/09/first-key-west-hash-oy.html
First Key West Hash - Oy. You remember how I said I thought they did things differently here. Um, yep. I'd say this hash group. Probably did it the more "correct" way and could get away with a lot of the raunchier aspects of the ceremonies because it's a pretty young crowd - no kids. These guys were hardcore - with necklaces made with their hash names and socks bought from the Haberdashery. Hrmph Glad the hash is on land. Then we started meeting the various hashers. They're not too hard to miss. The hare...

The Babbling Conch: An Uninvited Guest
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2013/02/an-uninvited-guest.html
Saturday, I'm stumbling around in a lack-of-sleep stupor because we had more Friday night fun. You'll recall that last Friday. We dealt with snoring beyond our wall that would have woke the dead (meaning it did wake up Michael). This time, we had a drunk walk right into our house. So in the past 6 months, our home has been breached twice by strangers - the first time in St. Kitts and the other here. Nifty. We'd say he was like a mole and the name stuck. I didn't know Michael's name for 3 years, I'm n...

The Babbling Conch: November 2013
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2013_11_01_archive.html
Okay, it's official. I've started a new blog called Scoop Fountain Hills. We have made many friends through our blogs throughout the years, and I know some of you have gotten used to reading about our lives, no matter how mundane, over your morning coffees. If you want to continue that tradition, you can sign up on the new blog. Scoop Fountain Hills is going to be a challenge. We lived in Arizona for 16 years before we took off on our sailing adventure. Posted by Renee P. Friday, November 29, 2013. After...

The Babbling Conch: Living La Vida Local - Part 1
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2012/10/living-la-vida-local-part-1.html
Living La Vida Local - Part 1. Ok, so Saturday we had a slow start to the day and then decided to do two things. Hike and go to the beach. When I walk/jog some mornings, I pass a Nature Preserve. There are two entrances and both are hemmed in by condo buildings. I haven't stopped because I've been too tired after my workouts. Side note:. I discovered that trek I took around most of the island a couple of weeks ago was just over 10 miles - no wonder I was so sore afterwards! I think we could handle them.

The Babbling Conch: The Long Road Trip
http://thebabblingconch.blogspot.com/2013/11/the-long-road-trip.html
The Long Road Trip. Sorry for the delay. I was too tired at the end of each day to do squat, and we've run into problems with both our cable and internet since our AZ arrival (not to be resolved until Thursday). I'm at the pool using the free wifi - not so bad. First we stocked up on the avocados that had finally started falling from the trees. Then we packed the truck. This is how we were hoping to watch it. Here's where we ended up. The signal was stronger there. The cats and I sat on the counter.
