San Gimignano is a classic Tuscan hill town with 14 towers of its 72 original still standing. A few weekends ago, Ashley (my second apartment-mate) and I daytripped here. This well connects down to a cistern that’s filled by rainwater dripping off the nearby roofs. You can feel the soul of even the most touristy towns if you get there before all the other tourists.

As the inspiration for the gardens of Versailles, the Boboli Gardens are undoubtedly one of the prettiest spots in Florence. This is the classic Italian Renaissance garden.
