Swishing Blood and Ticking Clocks | a series of moments
https://aseriesofmoments.wordpress.com/2014/08/24/swishing-blood-and-ticking-clocks
A series of moments. Moments to hold onto for future retrospection. Swishing Blood and Ticking Clocks. August 24, 2014. Middot; by Natalie. Sunday, 4 AM. The magic hour when you can hear the blood swishing somewhere in your head and the faint sound of a clock ticking in the other room. In the suburbs, it’s the silence that is most deafening. Or write the blog post about the biting flies in Belize that I’ve totally been meaning to write. This entry was posted in Writing to myself. Leave a Reply Cancel rep...

A series of moments. Moments to hold onto for future retrospection. Three Minutes of Existing…. December 31, 2014. Middot; by Natalie. Three minutes of “being.” It has me wanting to hurl my phone off of the platform, bidding farewell to this weird addiction to technology. My thoughts are, “There’s so much to observe! So many ways to experience everything and nothing! And these little devices are like blinders to the world around you! How great it would be to smash it and never look back! Join 31 other fo...
Today’s observation. | a series of moments

A series of moments. Moments to hold onto for future retrospection. November 12, 2014. Middot; by Natalie. The weather kindly reflects my mood this morning: foggy, cloudy, warm, the atmosphere unstable. The sensation in my back is probably the same sensation a construction crane would feel just before buckling from the force of strong winds (if a construction crane had any feeling). Whatever the case may be, today is out of my control and I appreciate not being consciously in charge. Calm before the storm.

A series of moments. Moments to hold onto for future retrospection. Juggling Gratitude and Anger. September 17, 2014. Middot; by Natalie. I’ve spent a considerable amount of time feeling gratitude for my situation. I was hit by a car and didn’t break bones, suffer a head injury or death. All things considered, 23 stitches and banged up knees are a cake walk compared to what I could be going through right now. The struggle between gratitude and angst set in. It could have been worse! This conflict was not...

A series of moments. Moments to hold onto for future retrospection. That time I was hit by a car. September 3, 2014. Middot; by Natalie. Warning: Gross image below. On the Thursday before vacation, my alarm was set for 4:50 am. Such a god awful alarm setting allows me time to make it to my morning Mysore class in the city by 6:05. At 5 am, I decided to practice at home instead. It was a playful yoga practice filled with extra backbends and handstands. Judging by the squeal of his tires as he made the tur...

Laquo; Foggy Hamlet. Taking cellphone video from a moving rickshaw, however, I can do. Pune is much more chill than Mumbai, and there are a lot more young people around. Just imagine the smell of diesel to complete the sensory experience of this next video. I know you won’t use your indicator or look over your shoulder before changing your trajectory, so meep-meep, FYI, I’m here! This was in a park outside a shrine that we visited, which I described in my notebook as follows:. A basalt cave with straight...
Wadi Shab | Moving Matters

Laquo; Pune Notes. Let Me Sum Up. Last Friday, K and I went on a hike in Wadi Shab, which is a couple of hours’ drive down the coast from Muscat. It’s a scenic drive, though this doesn’t do it justice. Anyway, there was parking and public bathrooms where the wadi passes under the highway, and because it was the weekend, there were lots of people around picnicking and such. To get to the trail, you have to cross this river. The trail starts in this grove of palm trees on the other side of the river. Some ...

Laquo; Mumbai Tourist Trail. I realize this continues to be a superficial account of our trip to India, but I’m very conscious of how my worldview as a Westerner colors things, which makes a deeper account of it time-consuming and fraught. So I’ll continue with the pictures as I sort things out. We sat on the veranda by the little courtyard chatting for an hour or two. She is an excellent person and all of her outfits were as beautiful as this one. We were sitting on this raised gazebo-like thing? Most p...

Laquo; Habitat Hunting. Bayou City Classic 10K. When my husband told me that the Pittsburgh plan was on, that he’d gotten the transfer he requested, my first question was Will we still be here for the race? We checked our calendars, and I was relieved that we would be. That’s me waving good-bye on my way to the top.). Photo from the Bayou City Classic. Photo from the Bayou City Classic. A Test of Faith. Deities laid out for Dasara. As an adult faith is a little different, definitely more of a struggle, but honestly not all that far off. I’ve stopped believing in a Santa Claus version of God, but I believe more now than ever in the importance of offerings, rituals and sacrifice. I also believe that faith should never be blind. Anyone and anything worth having should be testable. One thought on “ A Test of Faith. 10/22/2014 at 8:04 am. I’m reading this on the train surrounded by peo...

On July 6, 2014. We decided to celebrate the 4. Of July even though we are somewhat constrained by Ramadan, a scarcity of compatriots, and general new-around-here-ness. So we waited until sundown and went to the club where there are grills on the beach. They look like this in daylight. Very pretty, but the sun is super hot, so waiting until dark was probably not a bad idea anyway. It doesn’t photograph well at night, but for posterity…. There’s always next year. On June 11, 2014. Oman is one of the few p...

My Two Cents | An alternative opinion
Three simple words. What is life? Or perhaps more appropriately, what is the meaning of life? Must you give your life a meaning to be life, or is life without meaning simply living? Must we all party like there’s no tomorrow, travel, experience, grow? This question has plagued me for a while now, it will no doubt fester […]. Read more "What is Life?
