A Sewing Life: October 2014

http://asewinglife.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Thursday, October 30, 2014. This shot somehow makes me look a lot taller and thinner than I actually am. Any ideas how to get this effect without a camera? I think the Wonder Woman costume was a success. I did enjoy the gratifying phenomenon of having my friends look at me without recognizing me! Next time, I would go for shorter cuffs with grommets. The elastic loops didn't hold up very well. Everything else performed great. Virginia at A Sewing Life. Friday, October 24, 2014. And here's a quick one!

A Sewing Life: March 2015

http://asewinglife.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

Wednesday, March 18, 2015. Vogue 8876 Mixed Media/Mixed Emotions. Marcy Tilton's Vogue 8876, nominally a dress pattern, has been on my list to make for a good while. This jacket version was very much inspired by The Dashing Eccentric's version. And by Marcy Tilton's discussion of using the dress pattern to make a vest. What I love, number one:. The organic cotton sweatshirt fleece fabric, purchased here in Asheville at a warehouse sale from Spiritex. So I tried bleach dyeing. Following instructions f...

A Sewing Life: June 2014

http://asewinglife.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 26, 2014. New Look 6143 Dress. Somehow I've never managed to make a successful version of this basic dress shape: darted bodice, sleeveless, full skirt. It's not totally been for lack of trying, but summoning the will to follow the fitting process all the way to a successful conclusion has taken some time. There is a discolored area on the lower front skirt piece. It was impossible to cut a front skirt portion in one piece without damage so I just had to accept that. So, what did I change?

A Sewing Life: Vogue 8876 Renovation + Wardrobe Contest

http://asewinglife.blogspot.com/2015/04/vogue-8876-renovation-wardrobe-contest.html

Monday, April 6, 2015. Vogue 8876 Renovation Wardrobe Contest. First things first: inspired by your comments and good ideas, I made some changes to my Vogue 8876 sweater jacket from my last post. While I feel better in the 2.0 version, I'm not sure the resulting garment will be quite the wardrobe workhorse I had originally envisioned because:. I removed the sleeves and made it into a vest. So, that's the update on the Vogue 8876 front. On to new business. I sewed up a very simple pair of pants (worn in t...

A Sewing Life: Knit Tunics: I'm Collecting 'Em

http://asewinglife.blogspot.com/2014/10/knit-tunics-im-collecting-em.html

Friday, October 24, 2014. Knit Tunics: I'm Collecting 'Em. And here's a quick one! Another Butterick 5954, this time the un-crossed-over version. Basically a long roomy t-shirt. I need, like, about 70 of these. Side view, showing how the hem is longer in back. And the back view, showing all kinds of imperfections in pattern alignment/matching/sleeve fit, but my God, it is a t-shirt. What I would. This binding technique should really be used more often, because it looks neat and it is very durable. It...

https://cuckoochanel.wordpress.com/2015/04/30/a-bird-under-the-wire

You've got wonderful bones, great eyes, and you dress really interestingly. A Bird Under the Wire. April 30, 2015. It started with a beautiful piece of fabric, generously donated by the prttynpnk one and creatively named the Blue Cranes of Doom. See what Anne did with it at http:/ prttynpnk.com/2014/04/17/blue-cranes-of-doom-x2/. I didn’t quite know how to do this preciousness justice, until the April challenge over at The Monthly Stitch. Put A Bird On It? Don’t mind if I do. Happy Stitching and MMM-ing.

You've got wonderful bones, great eyes, and you dress really interestingly. Flyin’ with my WIP. April 26, 2015. Way jumping the gun here, but wanted to share a fun WIP that I’m trying to finish before the Monthly Stitch “Put A Bird On It” month ends. I’m mostly posting this to show Anne because it’s such a fun piece of fabric which she bestowed upon me. Anne’s brilliance is at www.prttynpnk.com by the way. Hope this inspires or otherwise entertains someone today. 4 responses ». April 27, 2015 at 1:51 am.

Happy Mardi Gras!!! | Cuckoo Chanel

https://cuckoochanel.wordpress.com/2015/02/17/happy-mardi-gras

You've got wonderful bones, great eyes, and you dress really interestingly. February 17, 2015. Trying something a little different and going the microblogging route, since I have so little to bring to the table in terms of sewing technique. I learned that word “microblog” when I decided to Google what the heck Tumblr is. I still don’t know, even though I have a Tumblr account. I finished off the ensemble with some killer Naughty Monkey shoes and my favorite new socks. And beads of course. I love it baby!

A problem we can all handle–I hope. | Cuckoo Chanel

https://cuckoochanel.wordpress.com/2015/02/19/a-problem-we-can-all-handle-i-hope

You've got wonderful bones, great eyes, and you dress really interestingly. A problem we can all handle–I hope. February 19, 2015. After several hours of organizing fabric, patterns, and other notions, and making almost zero progress, I spotted this on the I Love Sewing. Thanks, I Love Sewing, for feeling my pain and helping me feel less alone. That is all. Anyone out there have a similar experience lately? Anyone need a pep talk? I’m feeling peppier by the day. Garderobenschau: MMM in Largo

http://garderobenschau.blogspot.com/2016/11/in-bonn-gibt-es-seit-kurzem-ein.html

Ein Blog über meine Nähfortschritte. Mittwoch, 23. November 2016.

Garderobenschau: Des WKSA zweiter Teil

http://garderobenschau.blogspot.com/2016/11/des-wksa-zweiter-teil.html

Ein Blog über meine Nähfortschritte. Sonntag, 20. November 2016. Des WKSA zweiter Teil. Teil 2: Sonntag 20.11.2016. Sonntag, November 20, 2016. Der A...

Garderobenschau: Sommerrock Folge 1

http://garderobenschau.blogspot.com/2016/06/sommerrock-folge-1.html

Ein Blog über meine Nähfortschritte. Sonntag, 5. Juni 2016. Diesen Stoff will ich verarbeiten. Es ist ein Musterstück von einem Dekostoff. Baumwolle mit sehr großem Muster. Meint ihr das geht? Weitere Röcke gibt es hier.

Garderobenschau: November 2015

http://garderobenschau.blogspot.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Ein Blog über meine Nähfortschritte. Sonntag, 22. November 2015.

Adventures in Sewing

A journal of my sewing projects and a how-to guide for how I did it. Monday, November 3, 2008. It has been WAY to long since the last time that I posted anything. I am ready to get back in the sewing spirit and there is no better time then the holidays! Plus, now is the perfect time to make myself some holiday clothes. No, I am not talking about sweaters with snowmen on them. I am talking about a beautiful dress, a skirt, a nice blouse. I want something I can wear to a party and look hot in. 160;  &...
