That'll Teach Me: A (Not So) Little Hiatus
http://www.thatllteachme.com/2011/10/not-so-little-hiatus.html
Tuesday, October 11, 2011. A (Not So) Little Hiatus. As you might have noticed, this blog has been dormant for a few months. My apologies for that. I was out of the country for most of the summer, and now I'm starting a new phase of my education: an MFA program in creative writing. In the meantime, I hope you'll continue to seek out learning opportunities wherever you go. You never know which class might ignite a lifelong passion. Labels: adult continuing education. That'll Teach Me: Mini University 2011: Day 3
http://www.thatllteachme.com/2011/06/mini-university-2011-day-3.html
Wednesday, June 22, 2011. Mini University 2011: Day 3. On day three of Mini University, Jessica wins the prize for choosing the best session: An in-depth look at the political situation in Iraq and what role the U.S. continues to play there. We both feel woefully uninformed in this area, so I enjoyed hearing the summary during dinner. On the flip side, GMOs are cheaper and easier to produce, requiring less herbicide and pesticide and using fewer fossil fuels in farm equipment. Because GMOs require le...

That'll Teach Me: Classes at Traders Point Creamery
http://www.thatllteachme.com/2011/06/classes-at-traders-point-creamery.html
Friday, June 10, 2011. Classes at Traders Point Creamery. This evening, my sister and I will be exploring the Traders Point Creamery. Farmers market and settling in at the Loft restaurant for dinner. I have a soft spot for TPC, with its fromage blanc. Raspberry yogurt and cottage cheese (which is so addictive we call it "crack cottage cheese" at my house). So, I'm delighted to see that TPC is now offering classes on organic cooking and gardening. Here's a rundown of the upcoming schedule:. August 15, 201...

That'll Teach Me: PMC Class with Washington Township
http://www.thatllteachme.com/2011/03/pmc-class-with-washington-township.html
Thursday, March 3, 2011. PMC Class with Washington Township. For weeks, I've been looking forward to the intermediate PMC class offered by Washington Township's Community and Continuing Education program. You can already see where this is going, can't you? So, lessons learned this week: One, trust your Spidey sense. Two, find some other place to take classes, because this venue sure doesn't look promising. Labels: adult continuing education. That'll Teach Me: June 2011

Thursday, June 23, 2011. Mini University 2011: Day 4. Like any conference, Mini University. Sometimes serves up a dud - a session that doesn't hold my interest and/or doesn't meet my expectations in some way. Today, though, I lucked out with three great sessions in a row (and a Bloomington Bagel lunch in between). We also talked about Armstrong, who styled his voice after the rhythms of his trumpet. Many tried to copy this singing style, too, but no one really succeeded, Baker said. Armstrong als...After...

News and notes from Ashley's Peruvian adventure (January-March 2010). Friday, February 26, 2010. Michael Meets Peru, Part III. After last night's guinea-pig detour, I owe you an update on the second half of Michael's visit. It's been a busy week! On Wednesday, we took full advantage of our boleto turistico. After a full day of "ruining," it was time for my regular Wednesday evening activity, the Projects Abroad pub quiz in Urubamba. Oh, how I love the pub quiz! On Thursday, we went a bit farther afield t...

Wandering Ashley: Welcome to the Jungle
http://www.wanderingashley.com/2010/03/welcome-to-jungle.html
News and notes from Ashley's Peruvian adventure (January-March 2010). Thursday, March 25, 2010. Welcome to the Jungle. This weekend, while everyone else went to Bolivia to renew their visas, I went on a whirlwind trip to the jungle. I boarded a plane in Cuzco on Friday morning, and an hour later I was in Puerto Maldonado, a boom-and-bust town in the Amazon basin. Why you don´t go to the rainforest during rainy season.). On Saturday afternoon, it was too hot to do anything except lie in bed and moan (even...

Wandering Ashley: You Know How I Hate Children ...
http://www.wanderingashley.com/2010/03/you-know-how-i-hate-children.html
News and notes from Ashley's Peruvian adventure (January-March 2010). Wednesday, March 17, 2010. You Know How I Hate Children . After two lovely weeks of vacation, I've started a new project: teaching English in a secondary school in Qoya, about ten minutes from Pisac. The school's "English teacher" only speaks about ten words of English, so I'm running the show (which, of course, is how I like it). The facility is very basic - no computers or science labs here - but it's functional and clean. This comin...
