Aihole situated on the bank of the river Malaprabha it is an old village and place of great architectural interest containing several temples within fort and many more in the open fields outside. In all, there are more than hundred temples at Aihole built in different periods ranging from the Badami Chalukyas to the Rashtrakutas of Malkhed and the Chalukyas of Kalyani. The place is aptly called the cradle of the South Indian Architecture.
