Beginning the new year with Korean | Aspirant Polyglot
https://aspirantpolyglot.wordpress.com/2013/01/22/beginning-the-new-year-with-korean
Beginning the new year with Korean. Well, it has been a long time since I last posted here. It’s been one of those ‘figure out the meaning of my life’ breaks – a life-long thought process to be sure – but I might be ready to do a bit of blogging again. Inevitably, it turns out that finding a truly awesome free resource was what got me excited about Korean and so now I am focusing on that first and keeping the Chinese for later…. This entry was posted in Korean. January 22, 2013. No particular reason, I j...
The introverted language learner | Aspirant Polyglot
https://aspirantpolyglot.wordpress.com/2011/11/06/the-introverted-language-learner
The introverted language learner. I love to learn languages, but not in order to talk to people. I don’t learn languages, like many people do, in order to meet new people, interact with different cultures and do so in the other person’s mother-tongue. I just don’t. While I’m not going to lump all introverts together, there is a certain difficulty in being introverted and wanting to learn foreign languages. When people say I’m quiet, this is even in my mother-tongue, English. Where does that leave me?
Word of the Week: Hlonipa | Aspirant Polyglot
https://aspirantpolyglot.wordpress.com/2011/09/03/word-of-the-week-hlonipa
Word of the Week: Hlonipa. This is the first of a new series of blog posts from me, which I am rather ambitiously calling “Word of the Week”. I intend for it to be something interesting, a word or a phrase, representing some cultural information, or colloquial speech. I don’t intend to present myself as an expert in anyway. These will just be snippets that I pick up on my language learning journey. This entry was posted in Culture. Word of the Week. September 3, 2011. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Create a...
Language Learning: How many words? | Aspirant Polyglot
https://aspirantpolyglot.wordpress.com/2012/02/08/language-learning-how-many-words
Language Learning: How many words? Recently, Benny Lewis. Tackled the question “How many words do you need before you speak a language ‘fluently’? Firstly I don’t think the question “How many words do I need to know to be fluent” is answerable. I would say fluency is not just about how many words you know, as such. Fluency. When do the numbers matter? So what is a better question to ask about numbers of words? Is right when he says “content is king”. It’s all about motivation. U...These numbers are usefu...

Old books converted to pdf, search it for language courses). Has a few basic language lessons, just have a look. Find books in foreign languages to practice reading). Listings of many online newspapers from around the world).

Brief Review of “Take Off In Spanish”. I thought I would share my thoughts on some of the language books I have bought over the years, starting today with Take off in Spanish. While I have always liked the Teach Yourself. Series for its comprehensive teaching, the sad fact is that these books are expensive – in South Africa at least – and I have never been able to afford one with the audio. Needless to say, the Colloquial. Series – the whole pack cost less than a Teach Yourself. Book is that it’s b...
