Assessing The Situation...: Living in a virtual world...

http://www.assessingthesituation.blogspot.com/2010/02/living-in-virtual-world.html

An MBA student's take on technology and the world we live in. February 27, 2010. Living in a virtual world. Can't buy your own island in Dubai? Don't sweat it, you can buy one on the cheap at Second life. Thanks to Grace Patuwo. I mean, really? Kudos to Philip Rosedale. On a more practical note, Second Life has given those in the education industry a new cost-effective teaching tool. On the consumer side, lets just say I can be as fit and good looking as (insert your all-time celebrity crush list here&#4...

Assessing The Situation...: February 2010

http://www.assessingthesituation.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

An MBA student's take on technology and the world we live in. February 27, 2010. Speech, Privacy, and the Internet. This post is based on Prof. Lawrence Lessig's keynote speech on November 21, 2008 at the University of Chicago Law School. Some random facts you (and I) didn't know about him until right now:. He was a character (played by Christopher Lloyd) in the popular TV show The West Wing. Artist group Monochrom performed a "Love Song for Lessig" on Boing Boing TV. Extraordinary explosion of data.

An MBA student's take on technology and the world we live in. February 14, 2010. Next time your out at a sporting event, see if you can get Rob's. Attention . with the help of an entire section (or two, or three). Thanks to groups like Improv Everywhere. You will soon be caught in so-called flash mobs. If you live in NYC, you're probably more familiar with them. No Pants Subway Ride. It didn't take long for companies to capitalize on this movement, check out this T-Mobile dance. Assessing The Situation...: Crowdsourcing: a misconception...

http://www.assessingthesituation.blogspot.com/2010/01/crowdsourcing-misconception.html

An MBA student's take on technology and the world we live in. January 22, 2010. According to Jeff Howe. Crowdsourcing is "the act of taking a job traditionally performed by a designated agent (usually an employee) and outsourcing it to an undefined, generally large group of people in the form of an open call.“. We need to nurture and fund inventors and give them time to explore, play and fail. A false idea of the crowd reduces the motivation for this investment, with the supposition that companies ca...

Shruti's Take: Reaction to Lawrence Lessig's Keynote Speech

http://shrutighate.blogspot.com/2010/02/reaction-to-lawrence-lessigs-keynote.html

Shruti's Take on readings for her MBA school networking class. Saturday, February 27, 2010. Reaction to Lawrence Lessig's Keynote Speech. 8216;No natural erosion of information.’. I found this very interesting in Mr. Lessig’s keynote “Speech, Privacy and the Internet: the University and Beyond.’. It becomes more expensive to erase data rather than keep it. That means that ridiculous blog you did in your teenage “emo” phase will resurface during your older ultra conservative phase! I’ve been reading...

Shruti's Take: Leading a Double Life

http://shrutighate.blogspot.com/2010/02/leading-double-life.html

Shruti's Take on readings for her MBA school networking class. Friday, February 26, 2010. Leading a Double Life. The first time I saw a glimpse of Second Life was on the TV show ‘The Office’ where Dwight is playing the game. He is such a proud guy that he is the same person in his second life- same looks, style, still sells paper BUT he can fly! I found that hilarious; but also found the game super corny. (Watch Dwight in his second life here.). I HAD to look the way I look! This will mean; let us check ...

Thinking About Social Media. A variety of posts to improve my blogging familiarity and skills. What Social Network Fits You Best? Saturday, February 6, 2010. No more, no less. That is the answer. So what is the question? Does the internet make us dumber or smarter? This is a running debate with no scientific answer. I am inclined to believe the internet has not changed the smart/dumb ratio (for lack of a more intellectual term). Which has a neutral impact to my smart/dumb. February 8, 2010 at 7:54 PM.

Several statements stuck with me after watching Lawrence Lessig's. Keynote on privacy and the internet. One of which was the lingering information on the internet that never goes away. Inna CA: Just Google it...duh?!

http://ishub656.blogspot.com/2010/02/just-google-itduh.html

Sunday, February 7, 2010. Just Google it.duh? I think the internet is part of our everyday lives and definitely effects the way that we process information, but to say that it makes us stupid is bold and in my opinion incorrect. We have all been to a gathering were a particular topic comes up and everyone is enjoying the conversation, until we get stuck and want to know more. That is usually when you hear a friend say…well, just Google it. Hey, if this is something that works, why do it any other way?

Sunday, January 24, 2010. Virtual brainstorming.yes please. When I think of crowdsourcing I imagine a group of people coming together and either coming up with a solution or compiling different ideas. The crowd could be coming together in person, but with the many different platforms out there virtual brainstorming is the next big craze. One company that has been experimenting with this idea is IBM, by conducting different JAM sessions. And a Smarter Planet JAM in 2009. I think the wisdom of the crowd.
