Well, OK, once in a while is fine, but give these easy every-day recipes a try first and see if they don't bring some zest and excitement to these relentlessly ordinary days of winter. Broccoli and Shrimp (Adapted from a NYTimes recipe) - serves 3-4. 2 pounds broccoli, cut into bite-size florets. 1 teaspoon whole cumin seeds.

A Tale of Two Kitchens. A cooking blog that chronicles the cooking efforts of two young women and their different takes on a recipe or theme. February 6, 2010. This week both cooks needed plenty of chocolate and by wonderful coincidence this amazing brownie recipe was posted on smittenkichen.com! We both tried it out and loved it.here are the results:. And friends, I strayed. I cheated on my perfect brownie recipe for the one I'm about to share with you. I feel so cheap! Was it worth it, you ask? Stir in...

A Tale of Two Kitchens. A cooking blog that chronicles the cooking efforts of two young women and their different takes on a recipe or theme. November 8, 2009. Cook 1: My Soufflated Ambitions. But first I watched Julia Child's video on making cheese souffle, found here. It seemed really easy. I used her recipe and all her suggestions. Luckily my guests were too polite to say anything. While the subtly spicy flavor and tender texture was very good, I missed the volume and pizazz that should accompany a pr...

Dart & Gather: March 2010

http://dartandgather.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Tuesday, March 30, 2010. Old Lady Shoe Makeover. I have the hardest time finding spring/summer shoes that are comfy and cute. I love slip-on/ballet flat style shoes but lately I've noticed that the lack of support makes my feet ache by the end of the day. I found these shoes at T.J.Maxx for a very reasonable price. I like the shape and support but hate the awful fake gemstone things. So I decided to make them over and was inspired by these shoes:. PPS-After...

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Wednesday, February 24, 2010. UPDATE- Next Project: Spring Dress from Simplicity Pattern. I'd never used it much before but had a packet lying around and decided to use it on the hems with the zipper, since the fabric was fraying a lot and kept getting caught in the zipper. It makes it look so nice and finished! Otherwise I would have been completely lost! As I've mentioned a few times recently I kind of went overboard at the last Joann's sale and got a bun...

Dart & Gather: Projects

http://dartandgather.blogspot.com/2010/05/projects.html

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. My last few projects have either been from patterns or too straightforward for tutorials. I made my first (successful) shirt from a pattern, Vogue 8495. I love the yoke top and especially the sleeves (well way the should piece extends out to a point)! This fabric is actually the Liberty of London scarf. From Target. They've been getting such great reviews and they're big enough to make shirts. I got both patterns. And finally now th...

Dart & Gather: September 2010

http://dartandgather.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Monday, September 6, 2010. Dot Dress and Hiatus. My end of summer project was McCall's 5845. A fairly basic sheath dress with a low back that will be great for work. I've had this dot fabric since I started sewing but was never sure what to make with it. This dot top/black skirt combination reminds me of (and was probably unknowingly inspired by) Assorted Notions' version of the coffee date dress. Monday, September 06, 2010. Dart & Gather: July 2010

http://dartandgather.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Friday, July 30, 2010. I was lucky enough to inherit a bunch of fabric from a friend whose mother's friend was cleaning out her sewing closest. Most of the pieces are small (1/2 yard or less) of quilting fabric but a lot of fun patterns and everything came neatly folded so how could I turn them down? I used this tutorial from MADE. Friday, July 30, 2010. Monday, July 26, 2010. I've been wanting to make a tie-front top for quite a while, since trying one on ...

Dart & Gather: April 2010

http://dartandgather.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Learning to sew in a barn outside Philadelphia. Saturday, April 3, 2010. I found this amazing fabric on sale at Joann's a few months ago and thought it would make a really cute spring skirt. I used this Cynthia Rowley pattern for Simplicity. It has a nice high, defined waist and pockets (although now that I found this tutorial. I can add pockets to anything! I also wanted to share some better pictures of the first skirt. Saturday, April 03, 2010. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

A Tale of Three Kiddies

A Tale of Three Kiddies. Tuesday, August 17, 2010. Aidan is a 1st grader! I officially have a child who goes to school all day. Aidan started 1st grade today, and it's another first for us. She has been gone just over one hour, and Taylor is bored to death already. It is just so strange to me that she will be gone until almost 4 pm every day. Did I do this? So that now she expects it? Hmmmm Maybe. I have not fully thought this through yet, but it's something worth considering. Friday, December 11, 2009.
