https://athirstyspirit.com/2014/10

Monthly Archives: October 2014. October 13, 2014 · 1:56 pm. 4th of July and Colorado. Taking advantage of not having to drive up to the Finger Lakes. We bought Bri-guy a very patriotic outfit for the holiday. He wore it with pride. It was good ski’n weather. I won’t bore you with the video. Our first adventure was camping, so we made a supply run. We set up shop in Golden Gate Canyon State Park, which was quite close to Casey’s house. We treated ourselves to some roasted vegetables Monday night. Every 10...

Taste of the tropics. Rhône vs. Barossa →. October 22, 2009 · 12:27 pm. Yesterday I attended a class at the Astor Center that explored decanting Champagne with Régis Camus, winemaker for Champagnes Piper Heidsieck and Charles Heidsieck, Maximilian Riedel, the CEO for Riedel Crystal North America (he’s the 11th generation of the family) and Jennifer Simonetti-Bryan, MW. Here’s a video detailing the decanting of the 1995 Blanc des Millénaires. Taste of the tropics. Rhône vs. Barossa →. As far as off smells...

One of my beer heroes…. October 19, 2009 · 10:18 pm. Taste of the tropics. You gotta love a hotel that has a beer drinking contest as one of its activities. Nestled among feeding the iguana, water aerobics and parents’ night off, it was the one item on the activity board that really caught my eye. While pretty much everything tastes good when you get away for a couple days, this is the beer that I’m still thinking about:. One of my beer heroes…. 19 responses to “. Taste of the tropics. Coonawarra in a nutshell | A Thirsty Spirit

Our trip in 6 minutes. Yep, it’s good with bacon and eggs →. June 6, 2011 · 11:21 am. Coonawarra in a nutshell. Sure, there were elegant, full-flavored reds, and yes, we saw that famous terra rosa soil, but what stood out for me when we spent a weekend in Coonawarra, was the hospitality and fun-loving spirit of the people who live there. Our trip in 6 minutes. Yep, it’s good with bacon and eggs →. 2 responses to “. Coonawarra in a nutshell. February 3, 2013 at 3:24 pm. This is the turn Coonawarra in a nu...

back deck cocktails: conquering the midwest

http://backdeckcocktails.blogspot.com/2009/09/conquering-midwest.html

Summertime outdoor (citrus-free) boozing. Is girls-gone-wild for Fernet Branca. I've spent the summer cuddling up to St. Germain. During my mega-weekend in the MSP at PBG Heather's, we introduced our respective paramours. 5 shot St. Germain. Dash or two of Fernet Branca, depending on your taste for the bitters. Stir with ample ice, top with club soda. Note: photos were taken by Peter; for obscene .gif of the meeting of the giants, see Fuck Rap You Can Have It Back. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

back deck cocktails: so much citrus! martini night with mom + dad

http://backdeckcocktails.blogspot.com/2009/08/so-much-citrus-martini-night-with-mom.html

Summertime outdoor (citrus-free) boozing. Martini night with mom dad. My parents have instituted 'martini night' on Fridays, which sometimes does and sometimes does not include actual martinis.  It boils down to 'cocktail night,' frequently but not always utilizing martini barware.  I went home to Iowa for the weekend without Achy, and took advantage of the citrus-positive atmosphere. . My mom had a hankering for 'lemon drops,' so we whipped up these lil babies with the bottle of Ciroc. A Dash of Bitters.

back deck cocktails: September 2009

http://backdeckcocktails.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Summertime outdoor (citrus-free) boozing. I neglected to photograph.anything last night, with the exception of this shot of Sarah finishing off the kiwi/lychee cocktail ('lycheetini'). The pitcher she's emptying out was surprisingly popular, given its less than stunning color. The tartness of the kiwis, though, disguising the surprising punch, is hard to resist. Recipe given for approx. 3/4 pitcherfull). In the blender, mix up:. The fruit of 3 kiwis. 2 shots of the syrup from the lychee can. Achy Obejas'...

Those were the days…. | Bond Street Bakery

https://bondstreetbakery.wordpress.com/2011/10/25/those-were-the-days

Born with a sweet tooth! Those were the days…. On October 25, 2011. I took a little blog trip back in time to see what I was cooking last fall. Wow. We ate well back then. Wow. And it’s been lunch all week. It’s so nice to be able to pull something out of the freezer. I really need to do more of that. I’ve also been busy cooking for the baby. She is eating pureed fruits and vegetables now, and I’ve been making some of her food. Apples. They are her favorite. 9654; No Responses. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Lunch Time | Bond Street Bakery

Born with a sweet tooth! On March 24, 2010. I recently put up my briefcase and black pumps and quit my job! This is “My Dad’s Turkey Chili” by Jenny Levison (aka Souper Jenny). Jenny is a b-list celebrity in Atlanta, Georgia, where she owns a very successful restaurant/cafe. The chili is a staple on her menu, and I’ve made it several times. There are several awesome things about this chili:. 1 It is very tasty and relatively healthy. You can find the recipe in Jenny’s cookbook or here. 9654; One Response.

Born with a sweet tooth! Asian Rice with Shrimp and Snow Peas. In Just Good Food. On October 21, 2011. The babe and I have been on a world tour. Four days after we came home from California, we went to Alabama. It was wonderful to see family and friends. And it was fantastic to see Auburn beat Florida! However, all the traveling has meant not much cooking. But I did manage to bust this dish out for dinner recently. You can find the recipe. 9654; No Responses. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Old Fashioned Apple Pie | Bond Street Bakery

https://bondstreetbakery.wordpress.com/2010/12/16/old-fashioned-apple-pie

Born with a sweet tooth! Old Fashioned Apple Pie. On December 16, 2010. This is my second ever apple pie from scratch. I used Martha Stewart’s recipe for Old Fashioned Apple Pie. I made the dough a day in advance, and I just used my hands to make the dough mixture. I wasn’t sure if I was doing it correctly or not, but it seemed to work out okay. I didn’t photograph the dough making because it was messy and I was concentrating on trying to get the texture right. Slice the apples thinly. I let this pie res...

Amer Picon: 11E (alas hard. In the US). Aperol: $20. And others. Since I can get it easily and cheaply I’ve also been mixing it with sparkling wine (for a nice, fruity, orangey sort of kir royale), tonic (curious and delicious) and as the kicker in a martini (not yet perfected). Highly recommended. September 11, 2012. And I lov...

Mindy’s Recipe For Disaster. Mini Miracle… Tuesdays? Happy 3rd Anniversary – I ate all your ice cream. →. June 10, 2009 · 9:30 am. Remember those pickled raisins? I told you they’d be back. After the Beer Experiment on Sunday, we kicked back and celebrated Bonnie’s win and Nick’s successful event with more food and drink, of course! Who knows, but I’ll know that I’ve made it by the smell of meat browning over hot coals. 2 cups soy sauce. 1 cup pickled raisins. 1/2 cup rice vinegar. 1/2 cup Unagi Sauce.

Burning Man] “Welcome Home”. Black Rock City, Nevada]. Prior to my departure to the long-awaited playa, whenever people asked me what I expected out of my week off the grid, I would answer eagerly and naively, “to have fun and spend time with my friends.” It turns out that neither of those things really happened, or at least, the truth is far more complex. To say we had “fun” at burning man is a gross underrepresentation. A rocky start: some playa dust and tears. Wednesday, we decided to sleep early and ...
