Liriopia's Legacy: January 2012

Sunday, January 8, 2012. BEST LAID PLANS FOR JANUARY, 2012. These are the projects I would like to get finished this month. The middle has been done for awhile, but I have been struggling with the borders. Here it is on my design wall:. I have two more border units to make because I took two out to use in the shams. The shams have not yet been started. This will not be quilted with batting due to weight. I have the backing. It is for my nephew. 2 Rita's Water Ice. What say you, Katie? Links to this post.

Liriopia's Legacy: SOME (BELATED) THANK YOU'S!
http://liriopia.blogspot.com/2013/01/some-belated-thank-yous.html
Sunday, January 13, 2013. SOME (BELATED) THANK YOU'S! In keeping with my resolve to post at least once a week, this time I would like to offer some (very) belated thank you's. Ki-Ki and I had a lot of fun that week (I wasn't working then) and I sent her back with a lot of pictures and an email diary of our adventures. Laura, I understand, got an A for the assignment. In appreciation, Laura made and wrote a lovely handmade thank you card and Joann sent me some goodies! Do I have to spell this out? I think...

Thursday, June 27, 2013. Paula, Paula, Paula. As sponsors drop/suspend relations with Paula Deen like a steaming hot hush puppy, I wonder why she keeps making missteps. My favorite recent Deen-ism summed it up when she spoke on the Today Show: "I is what I is." This 'regular folk' talk sure sells a ton of products but this time it just seems to add more cement to the coffin that is her vision of herself. Whoever Paula is, it is currently not working on her chosen medium - television. I don't care about h...

Saturday, August 23, 2014. A Frantic City, NJ. Dear Atlantic City,. Oh, how you've changed. I grew up visiting you during all my childhood summers. My family even spent some Thanksgivings and Easters with you. You were my first seashore love. I was blind to all other towns to the north and south of you. You've always been a city to me because before casino gambling rolled into town, you. Contained intimate, vibrant neighborhoods. You were rough around the edges, but pulsed with ethnic life. In August, 19...

A Subject for Consideration: On The Radio ~ Whoa~ohhhhh~oh~
http://asubjectforconsideration.blogspot.com/2014/07/on-radio-whoaohhhhhoh.html
Tuesday, July 1, 2014. On The Radio Whoa ohhhhh oh. We said it really loud, we said it on the air, on the radio. The only thing this post has in common with Donna Summer is that the topic takes place in the summer .on the radio. I just could not resist her lyrics because my book club has gone audio! We've been chosen to discuss Karen Russell's latest effort, "Sleep Donation," on WNYC's radio program. The discussion airs noon,. L to R: Me, Lou, Joanie. We have over 190 novels checked off in the Read and D...

Monday, October 7, 2013. Hold That Thought.and Note. Imagine 70 singers and musicians holding a single sound for 20 minutes. A single sound - namely a D major chord - for a full 20 minutes. For another 20 minutes. Stay with me now. The performance, called Monotone-Silence Symphony, was the 1960's. Brainchild of Yves Klein, a conceptual painter who died at age 34. It was recently performed at the Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City. CBS Sunday Morning reported on the eccentric piece. As we...

Monday, December 30, 2013. Things I Learned in 2013. Kids leave the nest. I know as little as I did when they first entered, minus the anxiety. Elementary schools are incredibly cheery places to work. I taught my girls about living in the suburbs; they are teaching me about city living. Looking down the barrel of 'way over fifty' feels odd and scary. Shucking clams is a fine skill. When kids visit the nest, familiar patterns sneak in as well. Julian Barnes' writing gives me goose bumps. Saying "my colleg...

Tuesday, September 24, 2013. New York State of Crime. One moment I was texting my daughter about a her new part-time job at school; the next there was nothing. So I followed up with email and Facebook messages. Where did she go? Well, she went nowhere; her phone took off. A ne'er-do-well (aka vile thief) stole her phone at a local coffee shop. It was a slight of hand that, while irritating and unfair, thankfully did not culminate in her being harmed. Yet, I realize my perspective is damaged. As we screec...
