Vocabulary/Beck May 26th | Michael Lemke

May 25, 2010 at 9:35 pm Posted in Uncategorized. 1 Comment ». Feed for comments on this post. Michael, I loved the way vocabulary was taught in this study. It made sende and seems doable for students of all ages. I hope to implement this kind of vocabulary study after read aloud time next year in my classroom. Hopefully it will make an impact on the vocabulary development of our students verbally and within the context of print. I wonder if this would be a good K-5 strategy for our school?

I don’t know if the thought of spending an hour of tutoring a child in fluency has ever crossed my mind. While I know it is one of the “big 5” in reading and have incorporated fluency in my lessons regualry, I have never commited that much intentional time to it. I wonder now how much my former students have missed out on? The Construction Integration Model. June 5, 2010 at 4:07 am Posted in Uncategorized.

Daneman and Carpenter (1980) studied working memory in college students. In their test they had college students read a number of sentences and try and recall the word at the end of each sentence, as well as a few other tasks involving recall. We did this task in class and it was much more difficult than it seemed it should be! Ehri, L. C. (1998). Grapheme-phone...8212; nor...

These words tend to be function words. This course has challenged my views on vocabulary instruction and the effects of decoding and comprehension the most. The articles we read were challe...
