The story of my Australian country home
Australian Town and Country: Weekend visitors
http://australiantownandcountry.blogspot.com/2012/05/weekend-visitors.html
Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Wednesday, May 23, 2012. I can't believe how long it has been since I posted. I've had my head down in the city working hard on my startup business. Everything has ground to a halt at the country house. I did have some weekend visitors recently. Kerrie and Henry came to stay. Here's Henry. He's a labradoodle. He brought his own weekend bag. I spiffed up the toilet wall vase with some fragrant heliotrope. Give me something to read.

Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Wednesday, December 1, 2010. One kind of summer weekend happiness. A post luncheon stroll. Nina. Snapped these a few kilometres from the house in early November. Gippsland, where the country house is nestled, is a quilt of rolling hills and quietly grazing cows. Labels: Summer weekend happiness. Australian Town and Country: A conceptual girl in a practical world

Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Sunday, January 31, 2010. A conceptual girl in a practical world. One of the reasons I bought the country house was to balance this side of myself. Constantly living in one's mind can be tiresome sometimes to say the least. I had an inexplicable urge to get my hands in dirt, to . do something. I have resolved to get more support during 2010 in both my city and country lives. This will involve thinking through (yes! Australian Town and ...
Australian Town and Country: Inspirations: Woodland cafe
http://australiantownandcountry.blogspot.com/2012/01/inspirations-woodland-cafe.html
Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Tuesday, January 3, 2012. Happy New Year everybody! The tables and stools were made from Macrocarpa and the tables were built around the trees. Charming details had been added: coathooks and a tableau featuring an old stove. Everything about the cafe was very simple but beautiful quality. One of the best features was a tame and no doubt very spoilt peacock named Archie. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Australian Town and Country: Sausage making finale: la sagra della salsiccia* (4)

Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. Sausage making finale: la sagra della salsiccia* (4). So, finally to the sausage making. Thank goodness that we had Jeanie, a trained scientist, in attendance because someone good at maths had to translate the American quantities for the recipes that we had chosen and adjust them for the amount of meat that we had. Some of the recipes in the book. So my trusty food processor was pressed into service and wh...

Monday, January 17, 2011. There is a little old man living next door to us. He and his wife are Greek and they have a lovely garden. He is always outside tending it and sometimes, when you look out our front door and over the fence you can see him standing on his stoop, pondering his patch of paradise, the corners of his mouth slightly upturned in quiet satisfaction. This man's name is George and he is our favourite neighbour. One day, the husband was out front wielding a broom, attempting to tame the ne...

Sunday, March 28, 2010. One of my all-time favourite TV characters is Hank Moody, the writer from Californication. Hank says, "Being a writer is like having homework for the rest of your life." This my friends, is an unfortunate truth. Today, my homework is almost day late. My dog didn't eat it. I don't even have a dog. My excuse is simple; I have a wedding in less than three weeks and I had to construct a polystyrene model of my seating chart. Australian author, Tim Winton believes that writing is a pro...

Monday, August 30, 2010. My coffee shop, the Oracle. I recently set out to challenge myself, to write something other than a post for this blog, a communication strategy or a copywriting job. Set a goal, people encouraged me. Writer folk espouse that competitions can provide the necessary impetus, setting a deadline for you without compromise, a looming date whereby a piece of work must be polished, printed, proofed and posted. I struggled to be creative at the same desk where I conjured up the corporate...

Friday, December 31, 2010. The Year of Parts and Pieces. The vacuum of time strikes again. It sucked us through its straw last January, and we felt the slow pull of irresistible traction. As we passed the year's centre, there was a floating sensation as we were suspended in its vortex. Now we are being lifted and pushed out the other side, to land with a 'pop'.right here. Some of us on our feet and some on our asses. Each year is extraordinary in its own way. On New Year's Eve, my husband and I often...

Sunday, October 24, 2010. I summon the Genie. Rome was built from the ruins, I thought, as I climbed out of my pit of despair. Phew, that was exhausting. I sat, perched on the edge of the hole I had dug for myself, legs dangling, perspiration pouring, dirt smeared across my cheeks. I looked down and then up. I looked for a sign. Instead, this week, I received a series of revelations. So, in no particular order I am going to share them with (lucky) you. Humans are just that. Human. We can be vesse...This ...

Monday, May 9, 2011. Each time I visit I start by signing my name and the time I arrive. I walk the corridors, deliberately breathing through my mouth, like I'm snorkelling, to minimise my exposure. The combined stink of urine, oversteamed vegetables and talcum powder still finds its way in. I take a left at the dining room where the door is wide enough for wheelchair access. She has open in front of her but her eyes are still. Grandma, I'm Peta-Lynn," I point at my chest now, raising my voice. She s...

Sunday, May 19, 2013. The Remains of the Day. So it's been awhile between posts, but let's not dwell on that now. I have been waiting to feel compelled to sit down, apply my fingertips to keys, and share something suitably miscellaneous. Alas, nothing suitably miscellaneous has compelled me to blog. Until yesterday. How old is he? SHE is five months old. HER name is Millie". We correct them, polite but emphatic. I was trapped in my own backyard. Wednesday, September 15, 2010. An Ode to My Gut. For when I am doubled in doubt. Fighting on the fear frontier. With reason lost or unfounded. I will read this again, to remind myself. I will place my hands atop my belly. And close my eyes to see. If I can reach into the dark. To pluck with precision,. It will be there, alright. Buzzing around others, from a land Before. That have served their purpose. And have since lay down to rest,. If I could place an ear to my soft rise,. A locomotive from a tunnel.

Australian Town and Country. The story of my Australian country home. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. My personal food project: Harris Angus. It's an ongoing project and I'm always really happy when I meet a new farmer to buy from. A few weeks ago I met Shane Harris from Harris Angus. Shane is a fifth generation farmer and breeds and sells cattle and sheep from his South Gippsland. Just up the road from my house. I'm really happy to have a supplier of beef and lamb that I am comfortable with. And, also imp...
