Mysteries, Thrills, & Suspense: April 2009

Thursday, April 30, 2009. Spring Is In The Air. I just looked up and realized, whoops! I haven't blogged in about two months. But, you remember that idea I said I was going to do no matter what? Well, I've been working on it. And, happily, my agent is now all for it. So, I've had a great. Reason to not be blogging. And, okay, truth time. I, sort of, kind of, rather completely, lost track of time. But the weather's been beautiful and I've been cleaning the house (I know - but why. View my complete profile.

History in the Writing: December 2008

Friday, December 26, 2008. Welcome, All Who Enter Here. Greetings. I'm an author of historical fiction. While I can and do delve into the far past, I tend to prefer the mid-1700's through to the early 1900's, prior to WWI. Unlike many historical writers I know, I wouldn't actually have wanted to live in these times. However, growing up I always wanted to visit them, to be able to see 'what it was like'. Movies and books provided that, but not always enough, and not always what. View my complete profile.

Wednesday, December 24, 2008. Its the Most Wonderful Time. Of the year to be writing! Well, and of course, other things, too. But I'm hard at work on my latest mystery, which is set in the summertime. I know, go figure, right? But I'm finding the hustle and bustle of this holiday time to be energizing, at least that's my answer when my husband asks why I didn't come to bed until 2:30am. May we all enjoy 2009 and find the mystery and excitement of life in every day. Posted by Cheryl Walker at 8:24 PM.

Mysteries, Thrills, & Suspense: May 2009

Friday, May 22, 2009. Happy Birthday, Arthur. Today is the 150th birthday of my favorite author, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Scottish-born literary genius. Having created two of the most iconic and everlasting characters ever in Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson, Sir Arthur truly is The Man. So, a happy birthday to the great man and his ability to entertain, not only in his own time, but in all the times that came after. That's a legacy all authors aspire to, but only the Great Ones achieve. Alls Well That...

Mysteries, Thrills, & Suspense: June 2009
http://authorcherylwalker.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Saturday, June 6, 2009. For the first time in a long. Time I'm having trouble with.my ending. I'm at the tail end of my latest (you all remember, the novel I wasn't supposed to be doing but couldn't shut the characters up enough to not. Yes, that one.). When I do a read-through, it just zips along, as a good mystery novel should. Note that I didn't say when I did the one read-through. No. Because I've had to do more than a couple. Several, even. And I think I have to do one again. Longer than I'd thought.

Mysteries, Thrills, & Suspense: January 2009
http://authorcherylwalker.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 19, 2009. Who Killed the Synopsis? Oh No one. What a pity. Yes, I'm at that point in every writer's life. Well, every novelist's life. The book is done and almost through the editing rounds, meaning it's almost ready to go to my agent. But it cannot go without.a synopsis. But I'm not happy about it. Posted by Cheryl Walker at 2:24 PM. Friday, January 9, 2009. Or, the letdown. I couldn't decide on the title. It's a great feeling to write "the end", but it also leaves me feeling lost and ai...

Blood & Chocolate: December 2008

Tuesday, December 30, 2008. I have been accused by my friends of trying too hard to find undead creatures in everyday life. Probably true. But there are times when even the most skeptical have to believe. Such a time was had recently. I went to dinner with some of my girlfriends, leaving our spousal units at home. We went to a very nice restaurant, lovely view, excellent food, wonderful service. And a vampire tending bar. After dinner, we went back to the bar, happy to find Count Hunkula still tending...

Wednesday, January 21, 2009. Buy a Book for Valentines Day! Oh, I know it's a few weeks away. But you should be thinking about the romantic day. Roses are lovely, but they die. Candy is nice, but it causes weight gain. Dinner out is an hour or so and then it's gone. A movie may make a memory, but you'll still have to buy the DVD. Certainly lingerie has its place, but how often are you really going to wear it? But a book. Now a book has lasting power. It's still one of the best, nay,. No matter what you c...

History in the Writing: March 2009

Friday, March 20, 2009. It's consistently making me happy when the Forgotten English calendar that my dear husband bought for me for Christmas coincides with my writing life. And this week was no exception. A word coming up was "diver" and it wasn't used for boards or underwater swimming. No, it was slang for a pickpocket. Mary Young, aka Jenny Diver, was quite the pickpocket and conwoman. Her most famous technique was to wear an ornate outfit with two artificial. Posted by J.M. Grant at 11:27 PM. As a w...
