Meet the Researchers: Florina Uzefovsky. Profile on Florina Uzefovsky, a visiting fellow at the ARC. How long have you been a researcher at the Autism Research Centre (ARC)? I am finishing my second year as a visiting fellow at the ARC. I will soon be leaving to go back to Israel where I will be working at the Ben Gurion University and setting up a new lab that will focus on empathy and autism, from developmental and biological perspectives. Can you tell us about the projects you’re currently working on?

It can be hard to create awareness of autism as people with the condition do not ‘look’ disabled: parents of children with autism often say that other people simply think their child is naughty; while adults find that they are misunderstood. Our understanding of ASCs has developed extensively over the past 20 years, but we still need further research to improve the prognosis of people diagnosed with the condition in future years.
