Autism Mommy: Autism and Status Quo: An open letter to the school board
http://www.autismmommy.ca/2016/11/autism-and-status-quo-open-letter-to.html
Autism and Status Quo: An open letter to the school board. We are now homeschooling our autistic son. He is 12 and would have been entering Grade 7 in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. I wish I could say we rode off into the homeschooling sunset, but alas, it was not the last time we’d be jerked around by the Windsor Essex County District School Board (GECDSB). Obviously, I can’t fit years of wrongdoing into one letter, so I focused on just this latest string of indignities. November 16, 2016. Dear Dr. Pyke,.

Five years ago, B and I lived next door to a nice fella who always smiled and said 'hello' to us from his front porch. One day he asked if I’d like to join him for a beer. And I said, 'Absolutely'. About as happy as we choose to be! Joy is a decision, a really brave one, about how you are going to respond to life." Wess Stafford. The main reason I write about my experiences with autism and share my family's stories is with the hope that more parents, caregivers, families, and peers will learn that autism is not good or bad, it just is. And the sooner we stop resisting what is, the sooner we can get on with life, which is beautiful! Prince Edward Island, Canada, Summer 2015. Autism mom and advocate.

Inclusive Summer Day Camps (& when they're not). 8220;Expect the best, plan for the worst, and prepare to be surprised.” Denis Waitley. As a working parent, I’ve relied on day camps during the summer months for years. 8220;We judge ourselves by our intentions and others by their behaviour.” - Steven M. R. Covey. On B’s first day of grade one I got a call from the school asking me to come and pick him up early. When I arrived, the conversation with the Principal went something like this:. 8220;He’s been crying all morning and he refused to put his shoes back on after recess.”. 8220;Oh, that is unusual behaviour for him.”. 8220;So, we had to bring him to the office and he fell asleep! 1) Be your child’s voice. Sometimes...

Autism Mom Journey
A look at biomed in my little girl with autism. I knew nothing about nutrition before I learned through talking with other parents, and by trial and error that nutrition really does figure into the treatment of autism. I have been amazed at how diet intervention (adding some foods and taking out others) does make a difference in AJ's focus, interaction levels, and simply her overall comfort levels.
