Le weekend: here for good | A year in Périgord
http://ayearinperigord.com/2015/04/11/le-weekend-here-for-good
A year in Périgord. The life of a British Francophile. Le weekend: here for good. How great would it be if. Well, now it is. The noun, that is, not the break from work that it implies. It’s all thanks to France’s culture minister, Korean-born Fleur Pellerin. She recently stunned the country with an announcement that the French language should embrace foreign words. English, by contrast, has always been rather good at this, frequently borrowing words from other languages. Accès sans fil à l’internet.
Reach for the stars: the Michelin guide | A year in Périgord

A year in Périgord. The life of a British Francophile. Reach for the stars: the Michelin guide. I know now what it feels like to be an undercover inspector for the Michelin guide. In the last couple of weeks I have traversed Europe to dine at restaurants that feature in the prestigious guide. Initially the guide covered just France, but over the years it expanded its coverage to other countries. The UK had to wait until 1974 for its first edition, and Hungary received its first Michelin star in 2008.

Castles in the air: Domaine de Puybéton | A year in Périgord
http://ayearinperigord.com/2015/02/07/castles-in-the-air-domaine-de-puybeton
A year in Périgord. The life of a British Francophile. Castles in the air: Domaine de Puybéton. If the key to getting ahead is a gimmick, the owners of Domaine de Puybéton in Dordogne have it made. The bed of roses they have made for themselves is actually above their heads in the form of treehouses. This romantic destination offers three. One styled after the Château de Monbazillac, one after Château de Hautefort and one after Josephine Baker’s former home, Milandes. Newer: Stop: in the name of love.

Really and Truly, Finally Goodbye | Deux plaques et un micro-ondes

Deux plaques et un micro-ondes. Adventures and cooking in a french garret. Why ‘Deux Plaques’? Really and Truly, Finally Goodbye. September 15, 2014. September 15, 2014. I suppose it was, really. In the last year I’ve worked three jobs, lived with two french families and spoken in one new language. I’ve learnt not to panic on the phone, how to turn a blind eye to a tantrum. And how to get twenty french children to sing ‘Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’. I can make croissants. Hard, been homesick. If you...
