A Year In Redwood. A diary of life in rural Redwood, Co. Tipperary as told by a city girl. Archive for the ‘Home’ Category. Posted in Business and Work. On August 2, 2016 1 Comment. I hate to admit defeat, but I really don’t get Snapchat. I understand how it works. I just don’t understand how it can work for business. What’s the point of spending time recording something that will ‘disappear’ in 24 hours? It just doesn’t make sense. Is it not more useful to use Vine, Instagram, Periscope, YouTube? There ...

Boglands are special areas of conservation, with the Irish Peatland Conservation Council. Imagine our horror when we saw this down o...

A Year In Redwood. A diary of life in rural Redwood, Co. Tipperary as told by a city girl. Laquo; Friday Photo. May 10, 2015 by ayearinredwood. We won the lottery. That’s the conversation we were having over dinner last night! I was asked what I would do, if, say we won 3 million? Well, here’s what I’d do…. I’d clear the mortgage. Buy that 85 acres around us that’s for sale. Turn it into an organic farm (replanting the hedgerows). Employ someone to manage the farm on our behalf. What would you do? Then I...

As the storms continue to batter us, and the rain has turned the landscape a very dull brown colour, I thought a photo of the house in summer with the sun blazing down and all windows and doors opened should brighten our hearts!

Life-force Vibrations: April 2014

The Columbia Gorge edition. Friday, April 25, 2014. Diving into Siletz Bay. I’m an angel. I’m an egret. I’m a flounder on a flat wave. Cold holds my breath down. And I choke up kelp tubes and crustaceans. My backstroke shows promise. My armpits targets for seagull deposits. My wristwatch is dead. Honk if you love catching crabs. Dig the bones of driftwood. Fuel firewood or fort. Starchy sand trunks and white whales. What’s a cellphone? Thursday, April 24, 2014. Change of Pace, Change of Place. Just how m...

The Columbia Gorge edition. Monday, August 10, 2015. When You #FeelTheBern While Reading Lars Larson Comments On FB. America has turned into a money slumped sludged-out shit-hole with the decline and evaporation of the middle class. You can be college educated and employers still want to only pay $10 an hour, few if any raises, and little to no benefits. No one can even pay for rent and food for that let alone their student loan bills, so tell me about this great nation America? Then 9/11, two convenient...

Thursday, March 1, 2012. DIY Patio Project from Salvaged Material. Today was just the kind of day that makes me glad Amy and I moved to Charlotte. Its only March 1st and yet the sun is shining and the thermometer is pegged at 79 degrees. I couldn't pass up the chance to get outside so I spent the day working on a backyard patio at our new place. The area was covered in vines, leaves, and trash before I began so it took a good amount of time to get everything cleaned up and ready.

Wednesday, September 28, 2011. We made our first stop at a food tent for their 8 euro snitzel, potato, and beer special. It was so good and gave us a nice base for the drinking that we would be doing for the remainder of the day. Kurtis and Tobi at lunch! Amy tripped on her way out of lunch. ouch! First official mass at Oktoberfest! Hey Selena Gomez, what are you doing at Oktoberfest? This describes the rest of the night pretty accurately. And more of this! Eventually, as expected, we were dancing on the...

Saturday, August 4, 2012. A while back I decided to undertake a winter project and create a 4' x 4' recreation of Roy Lichtenstein's "Girl with Hair Ribbon" out of legos. Here is a picture without the border. I had so much fun with it that I decided to make another. I chose a different Lichtenstein painting this time ("Fast Car") and blew it up to 4' x 5'. A little background on the process. Step 2: I built the back from a sheet of plywood and some 1" x 2" wood bracers nailed to the back. Subscribe to: P...

Asymp; 1 Comment. 8220;Regarding the issue of unprovenanced antiquities: surely even without substantiated provenance, there is still some factual knowledge to be derived the approximate age of the item, for instance, and its general geographic origin? A Year In Redwood. A diary of life in rural Redwood, Co. Tipperary as told by a city girl. March 4, 2018 by ayearinredwood. That’s what the weather of the past week has been christened. We don’t get much snow in Ireland. Sometimes we get a sprinkling that is gone in a few hours, or at worst overnight. This week, however, we were on lockdown! I had made the discovery that we only had a half pack of tea left…. now, if we were going to be housebound for days, I will not survive without tea! We were thankful...

A Year in Romania. Monday, May 13, 2013. I treated myself to a workshop experience over the weekend. For May 11 and 12 I joined 4 other folks in Davin Ellicson's (see his work here. So here are some of my better efforts:. This street urchin was begging me for money. The picture above is during the begging; below, she is posing after I gave her 1 leu. I still like taking pictures of buildings, but I received encouragement to look for unusual perspectives or backgrounds. It was a good workshop: I saw parts...
