Sparks of Dementia : Demented About Baseball. Where I write on anything of interest to baseball, especially my beloved Colorado Rockies. There are lots of other teams if you go back looking, but this is pro-black-and-purple. Pardon me if real life creeps in occasionally, as, although it is a surprise to me as well, I do have one. The Coors Effect
http://coorseffect.mlblogs.com/page/2
A weblog covering the boys of Coors Field. I’m not the only one who dislikes ESPN. Everybody should read this post over at Dawg Sports. Hey, I’m a Vandy fan, but I’m open to good reading on a Georgia blog) and you’ll better understand this. I’ll forgive them for failing to mention anything about Vandy in their segment on the SEC Media Days. Hey, let’s talk about the draft. June? Hey, training camp is next month. August? Hey, it’s the preseason. October? Hey, it’s the regular season. Baseball? All in all,...

Leather, Runs and Repeat: March 2008

Saturday, March 29, 2008. Bringing the Knuckleball to Seattle. I have a particular fondness for pitchers who build their career on odd pitches. Bring a good eephus. To the plate and I'll be hanging on every pitch. Go against the grain with lots of change-ups and pristine location on off speed offerings (a la Jamie Moyer. And I'll be your biggest fan. Feed hitters a steady diet of sinkers without getting burned and I'm fascinated. The knuckleball is one of those novelties that draws me in. Thursday, March...

Wednesday, May 07, 2008. The Four Keys to Winning Your Fantasy Baseball League. Few diversions appeal to the twin demons of obsession and competitiveness like fantasy baseball. After a solid yet fascinating smack-down in my first year of play I've managed to crack the code of schooling one's friends and enemies around the league. Here are the four keys to bragging rights:. 2 Pitchers are fragile things. Last year, my second round pick was Chris Carpenter. Last year I drafted Brett Myers. And was initiall...

Wednesday, August 22, 2007. 3 Picks: Eyes on the American League. Thursday, August 23: Jake Westbrook. 4-7)(CLE) vs. Nate Robertson. There's no way I would have anticipated losing records for both of these starters back in April. Two starters having off-years go at it in this one. Indians 3, Tigers 1 (10). Win Probability graphing by Fangraphs. Indians player of the game: (SP) Jake Westbrook - WPA .563. 80IP, 5H, 0R, 0ER, 2BB, 3SO, 0HR. Indians lowest contributor: (RF) Franklin Gutierrez - WPA -.320.

Leather, Runs and Repeat: Bait the Fish
http://leatherrunsrepeat.blogspot.com/2009/05/bait-fish.html
Wednesday, May 27, 2009. The Mariners have given up on 2009. The season started well enough. The games of April had that electricity that makes one want to watch baseball. Now at the end of May, the M's have fallen back toward initial expectations for the year - which were not high. At this point, the Mariners are lucky to have a pair of starting pitchers to dangle as trade bait. What can we expect in exchange for Jarrod Washburn. I'd trade them both for Hanley. I'd even toss Yuniesky.

Wednesday, May 30, 2007. Thursday, May 31: Mark Buerhle. 2-1)(CHW) vs. Roy Halladay. Let's hope he's in good health. I'm a little surprised to see Buerhle is only 2-1 at this point in the season. That's 6 no decisions for the big lefty so far. Win Probability graphing by Fangraphs. Mark Buehrle: 8.0IP, 2H, 2R, 2ER, 0BB, 6SO, 2HR - L.
