From the archives – a sonnet to soothe in times like these. Sonnet #38 – Damascene Sonnet. You lose some things you cherish as you pass. Through life’s transitions. Letters you received. May not survive a flood — first drafts of poems. You wrote get lost in shipments — coffee mugs. Disappear, book collections may not stay. Intact when divorce or death parts the waves. Of time. Friendships and associations. You thought would be there in your grayer years. May only survive a season, or not —. Pingback: #Di...

bus stop sonnet – #ThisIsMyPoetryBlog
https://thisismypoetryblog.wordpress.com/2016/11/01/bus-stop-sonnet
I neither wanted nor needed freedom. In my youth. My brain, on fire, needed. A container with lots of oxygen. To cool and feed its insatiable thirst. For truth. Older now with vision clouded. By smoke and smog, I seek that same freedom. I once disdained, forsook, refused, denied. Older now with knees that ache at the thought. Of bridging the divides that hide inside. My conversations – wait! At its destination at last! Shuttle to catch, one more chapter to read,. One more sonnet of love or fate to extract.

The real 2017 poem – #ThisIsMyPoetryBlog
https://thisismypoetryblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/04/the-real-2017-poem
The real 2017 poem. Life is all about accepting. Apologies that are never spoken,. They ought to have been,. And choosing to forgive. When it may not be deserved,. And trying to avoid. Mistakes our fathers made,. And navigating around the taboos. That attempt to assail us. You know what I mean? It’s like we have to premeditate. The evils lurking just around the corners. Of our lives. All the time. I don’t want to sound polemic,. Certainly not didactic –. Words with Greek origins. So I’ll not romp. You ar...

https://thisismypoetryblog.wordpress.com/2016/12/30/from-the-archives-three-fourths-time
From the archives – “Three-fourths Time”. I used to call it sing-songy French,. The occasional sweet things you’d say. In your deep southern, swing low tone. We lost all contact over the years:. Marriages, divorces, voyages,. Wars and rumors of wars,. Storms and floods and broken dikes. And now we are too aged. To put the scattered pieces back. Into their right places. While scattered, these random pieces. Of our lost love – words, verses –. Refuse to go away completely,. So we stare at them, the pieces,.

Sunday’s Sonnet – Conclusions are my weakness (superpower) – #ThisIsMyPoetryBlog
https://thisismypoetryblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/08/sundays-sonnet-conclusions-are-my-weakness-superpower
Sunday’s Sonnet – Conclusions are my weakness (superpower). Thumbing slowly through the pages and pages. Of my various attempts at poetic expression,. It’s patently clear why you might question. If I am on and off my modern medications. But the vitamins and various supplements. I take don’t really count as medicine. So my highs and lows and euphoric states. Must require a different explanation. Conclusions, you see, are my weakness (superpower) –. I’ll come right out and own it and admit it –. Leave a Re...
