But I just had to share this recipe with you, on the weekend l celebrated my birthday with my family. Most people can't believe that l would even contemplate making my own cake but for me l see this as a chance to make something just for me. 120g butter, softened (the softened butter should be easy to cut through). 150g (2/3 cup) caster sugar. 1 teaspoon (5ml) vanilla extract.

Friday, March 26, 2010. Easter's just around the corner. Cooper has just finished his first term at school, it only feels like yesterday that he started. I made these delicious cupcakes for Cooper's Teachers, I made "the best ever chocolate cupcakes". Again . I can't tell you enough how good they are. I got the cute design from a FlickR Member The Frosted Cake and Cookie. I iced the cupcakes with Italian Meringue Buttercream. Here is a picture of the cupcake all packed and ready to go,. From buttercream and birthday cakes to royal icing on celebration cakes and everything in between. Sunday, 15 August 2010. I made this cake to celebrate a friend's new artistic venture - www.facebook.com/fionaspaintings. It's based on a Planet Cake design, and created using their carving and ganaching technique. The cake was home made coconut with lemon white chocolate ganache. My hand painting isn't great. Piping gel gave the fondant the look of wet paint. The crimped end is one of my favourite bits.

Which is why I'm somewhat perplexed that it isn't more popular in Australia. In fact, the only place I have visited which has this most divine of desserts on the menu is Spice Temple. Great place for food, but a little on the expensive side if you're just looking for a slice of cake. Pastel de tres leches.

My standard cake if someone is coming over at short notice is a butter cake, but obviously that gets a bit boring after a while. Adding honey to the mix seemed like a good solution. The smell in the kitchen while it was cooking was worth the effort on its own. 1/4 cup brown sugar. 1 tspn vanilla bean paste. 2 eggs, lightly beaten.
