Hand crafts made by socially marginalized people. BALADARSHAN promotes candles and incenses made by a group of women from Puducherry, 160 km South of Chennai, all coming from economically and socially weaker section of the community, and involved in a Self-Help group. These women are trained meticulously in different areas - always insisting on them the need for quality and perfection - to produce a large range that spans from perfumed flower or sea-shell decorated candles to natural hand-rolled incenses.

Kalamkari

Hand crafts made by socially marginalized people. Kalamkari is the art of painting cotton fabrics with a kalam (literally kalam means pen and kari, art), a sharp pointed bamboo stick padded with hair or cotton and tied with a string on one end to regulate the flow of color. Baladarshan orders a range of products made out kalamkari from different producers groups in South India, especially groups of socially marginalized women (widows, destitute, HIV affected, physically challenged women).
