Sarah By The River: February 2013
http://sarahbytheriver.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html
Sarah By The River. Saturday, February 23, 2013. Every morning, I wake to the rhythmic sounds of coos pounding. It is a curiously alluring, gently rousing lullaby. The thudding of the heavy wooden mallet against the coos. The unexpected pauses. The changes in tempo. The sweeping resonance. Such a simple song, but one that bewitches me. Sarah By The River. Monday, March 11, 2013. It Hurts To Have Your Hair Braided. Fatimata is braiding little Nene's hair. Nene wails and cries as her mom weaves her hair tight into pretty microbraids. I try to bribe Nene to stop her tears with a picture. Fatimata laughs and wipes Nene's face, trying to hide the tear tracks. I kind of love this captured moment. It hurts to have your hair braided, but man, you sure look pretty afterwards. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Monday, October 6, 2014. Readjusting and some other things. I’ve had so many people tell me, “wow, you must be so glad you’re home! Africa dangerous…yeah the roads are can be pretty bad, and accidents happen, as they do everywhere. But in my short 5 months back, I’ve experience more victimization and ‘dangerous’ situations than I did in over two years there. Earlier I had put home into quotations. Home has been redefined for me. It’s not so much of a physical place as I feel like I have a h...The purpose...
