For the Love of the Soil: May 2014
http://barnyardorganics.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Wednesday, May 21, 2014. May 2014 Farm Tour. Get yer boots and yer helmet, it's time for a farm tour! Finally made a point of taking the camera with me to chores the other night so you could all see the goings on around Barnyard Organics these days. Here's to hoping I have enough butter in the freezer! Next we head out into the pasture where we've finally gotten the chicken shelters out! Links to this post.
For the Love of the Soil: No Big Yellow Bus?!

For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Friday, July 25, 2014. No Big Yellow Bus? Well, if going organic, raising chickens on pasture and getting a family milk cow didn't already plant us firmly in the 'crazy-hippie' category, our next move surely will. We've decided to give homeschooling a go. Let the adventure begin! And so it will be with the homeschooling too, I am 100% certain. Anyway, that's a different post. I'm looking forward to working with...
For the Love of the Soil: June 2013
http://barnyardorganics.blogspot.com/2013_06_01_archive.html
For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Tuesday, June 18, 2013. Welcome Baby Barnyard #4. Sunday morning at 7 am, little Solomon Mark Bernard arrived on the scene, as bright eyed and bushy-tailed as could be. We were convinced he was tiny (and he sure looks it to us), but the scale revealed a chubby 9lb 6oz'er. Initially disappointed he wasn't a girl, big sis soon became pretty territorial over her new charge. Links to this post. I've been thinking m...
For the Love of the Soil: July 2013

For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Tuesday, July 16, 2013. I have this personal internal struggle with agriculture and this pull between it being strictly business or a lifestyle. I know that it's really a bit of both, but what a difficult balance to achieve. I think there's added complication by the fact that I grew up on a farm, different to how Mark grew up on a farm, so we have a different perspective on where that balance lies. One of our w...

For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Sunday, April 19, 2015. Election Time on the Island! Disclaimer: since I'm such an infrequent poster these days, I feel like I can post such a long tirade about local politics because I have so few followers left. For those hangers on, thanks for sticking around- sorry about the length! For farm photos and updates, you're much better off watching the Facebook. Let's differentiate, let's turn this thing upside d...

The Speakers | A Local M.E.A.L.
https://alocalmeal.wordpress.com/get-involved
A Local M.E.A.L. Meet Eat And Learn. We had a wonderful line-up of speakers for A Local MEAL; they were most definitely the highlight of a fantastic evening. Visit their websites, check out the videos of their talks, or view the original presentations (saved in PDF, rather than the original Powerpoint version) for inspiration and insight! We had an unexpected, but welcome, last minute addition to the speakers when Paul Offer requested the opportunity to say a few words. More updates on links to come soon!
Hughes Hill Farms: New Arrival
http://hugheshillfarms.blogspot.com/2011/04/new-arrival.html
Tuesday, April 5, 2011. I haven't posted anything for a long time, I know.but I just couldn't miss this one! I just delivered this calf all by myself! This is the first time I've ever done anything like this all by myself with absolutely no one else around. Gary is away at a seminar today and it is quite mild and I thought I better go over to check on the temperature in the barn. I was glad I did because I discovered a loose calf sucking on a cow - a definite no no! In other news, we have some seeds germ...
Jen and Derek's Farm Fresh Veggies: Week #2 - Hurricane!!
http://farmfreshveggies.blogspot.com/2014/07/week-2-hurricane.html
Sunday, July 6, 2014. Week #2 - Hurricane! This post is really late coming but we have a house full of family, four kids five and under and never ending dishes. Life is good. My sister and her family are visiting us from BC which has meant lots of play time for Ben and Jake. Kids will be kids, gigantic controlled house fire and all they wanted to do was play in the big puddles. Too cute for words that kid. Silly kids at the beach. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Salad Bowl Gardens Farm Blog. Tales from the lettuce patch. A garden that got too big for two, thorough examinations of dishes at fine restaurants, a tomato variety addiction, a mutual dream, a healthy dose of serendipity and the allure of the Truro Farmers’ Market conspired to create Salad Bowl Gardens in 2005. SBG is owned and operated by Roxanne Beavers and Jamey Coughlin. We are doing this market gardening thing part-time (whatever that is supposed to mean) and growing slowly. Hi Roxy and Jamey.

It is April 8, and for the first time in years there are no wee seedlings gracing our windowsills. No shelves full of tomatoes, onions, fennel, and no dirty fingernails. So, what’s up with Salad Bowl Gardens? But keep checking in from time to time, if you like. Likely we’ll have some cute kid photos, probably in the garden. Notify me of...

Barnyard of the Tragically Hip
Barnyard of the Tragically Hip. The barnyard is a reflection of ourselves. Domestic animals are every bit as self absorbed and frustrated as we are. Every bit as flummoxed by the society they live in and the society that governs their own. To that end this blog is dedicated to their little tragic universes where life is too much like our own. Visit often to discover what the Tragic Barnyard is up to. Sunday, January 16, 2011. We'll all be waiting for you over there! Posted by Shelias Place. Competition c...

For the Love of the Soil. The Adventures and Misadventures of a 500 ac Certified Organic Farm. Sunday, December 10, 2017. Back on the big yellow bus. I was struggling with why I was avoiding writing this post and then I remembered the struggle I had writing the post about the decision to homeschool.
