BaseballThink: Lessons from the Little

http://www.baseballthink.blogspot.com/2008/08/lessons-from-little.html

Lessons from the Little. I attended the Mid Atlantic Championship game. Of the Little League World Series last night. The winner advanced to the main event in Williamsport, PA. One thing I took away from the game was the pure joy of the kids. They are out there playing for the love of the game. If you find yourself getting frustrated with the game because of personal or team struggles, I recommend taking in a little league game to make yourself realize why you are playing this great game.

BaseballThink: Stealing 3rd, Part 1

http://www.baseballthink.blogspot.com/2008/08/stealing-3rd-part-1.html

Stealing 3rd, Part 1. Stealing 3rd base is something that amateur and scholastic teams should be doing more often. It's all about finding the right opportunities. Consider this posting the first in a three part series about stealing 3rd. Steal on a pitcher who doesn't change his timing to the plate. By studying the pitcher's tendencies, a runner at 2nd can get a huge jump. Look for a few things:. 1 Observe how many times the pitcher looks at the runner before starting his delivery to the plate. Get Baseb...

Casper the Friendly Basecoach. This post is dedicated to those under-appreciated, underrated base coaches out there. Can you think of another sport where players look to coaches for guidance in the heat of a play? 1 Stay on your toes. Your attention and intensity should be equal to or greater than that of the baserunners. 2 Be a broken record. 3 Know the signs. It sounds stupid but often times the signs are coming from the bench and the basecoaches will tune them out. 4 Be a student. Same rhythm (i.e...

BaseballThink: Where is #1?

http://www.baseballthink.blogspot.com/2008/08/where-is-1.html

Before almost every game, a team will take a round of infield/outfield as a tune-up. It's a chance to get the blood flowing, get a feel for how the ball is going to bounce, and perhaps practice seeing the ball against a tough sky. There is a key player often absent from this routine. the pitcher. Are we missing something here? Why is the pitcher traditionally left out? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Stealing 3rd, Part 3. Andy Katz 360: University of Sleep

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2008/09/university-of-sleep.html

Tuesday, September 30, 2008. US colleges are becoming increasingly concerned about sleep deprivation among their students. Wellesley College spreads the message by throwing dorm pajama parties with tea and popcorn.'. YeahI'm sure that sends them directly to REM mode. Tufts University passes out sleep masks, ear plugs, and a CD of relaxation tracks.'. This is college not a nursing home. Look out Japan.here we come! We're coming after your jobs! Andy Katz 360: July 2007

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

Monday, July 23, 2007. With pleasure. and without fatigue. Check out this poster for a sausage maker in Auvergne, in central France. It's got everything I like: a pig, seppuku, and writing I can't comprehend (though the Google translator tells me it means, "Life is cool in Gitmo, seriously."). On a serious note, it reminds me of The Omnivore's Dilemma. If we're not supposed to eat animals, why are they made out of meat? Posted by The Family. Monday, July 2, 2007. Andy Katz 360: October 2007

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

Wednesday, October 31, 2007. I was able to sneak away from work and grab some glimpses of the Red Sox victory parade. From my vantage point along Boylston St., I was able to take some great photos and video clips. The parade did not compare to the 2004 celebration, but it is always great to see the city coming together for a common cause. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Subscribe to The 360. Andy Katz 360: June 2007

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Monday, June 25, 2007. Am I a "blogger" now? Midway through a wedding this weekend, my friend Andy Katz asked me if I'd like to contribute to his blog. Since I was full of Heineken and wedding revelry I found it quite easy to say "yes". I am a shameless egomaniac, and I love seeing my words in print. I don't know much about writing a blog. I do know that a typical protocol is to post lots of links to other bloggers whose style you intend to blatantly emulate. I learned this from Penelope Trunk. I know ab...

Andy Katz 360: Dodgers/Sox Would Make For A Bizarro Series

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2008/09/dodgerssox-would-make-for-bizarro.html

Monday, September 15, 2008. Dodgers/Sox Would Make For A Bizarro Series. Game Seven of the World Series, Fenway Park. 12th Inning. Joe Torre yawns and strolls to the mound to make a pitching change. Derek Lowe emerges from the bullpen and struts across a frosty Fenway outfield, engulfed by chants of “Derek, Derek, Derek.”. Bill Mueller, Dodgers special assistant to the GM, sits behind the Dodger dugout next to his special guest (Dave Roberts). The Sox are down to their last out. Kevin Youkilis is at ...

Andy Katz 360: April 2008

http://andykatz360.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 4, 2008. Bartolo Colon pitched 5 dominant innings in Pawtucket last night and left to a standing ovation from the frost bitten crowd. Donning short sleeves in very cold conditions, Colon made short work of the Indianapolis Indians. He topped out at 96 miles an hour. If Colon can become a contributor to the Red Sox rotation this season, the loss of Schilling could become a non factor in 2008. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Subscribe to The 360. Grip N’ Rip Club. Baseball tips and strategy talk. Bouncing Leads At 2nd Base. March 14, 2010 by baseballthink. What is the proper approach when taking a lead off 2nd base? There are situations that warrant extended leads, but in general I like my players to take the same lead every time. Don’t worry about the fielders. The pitcher has the ball.
