Baseball Without Borders

Monday, November 2, 2009. Appeal to Baseball Gods. There are two reasons I want the Yankees to lose. 1) is, obviously, because I am a Yankee-hater. Which means, even if they have gone 9 years without a championship, that does not seem anyway near long enough. I'm a Sox fan. I want to see them suffering from a 100-year drought. Longer. I want them to have the longest Title-less streak of any Major League Baseball team. In short: I hate the Yankees and want them to lose. So Don't die yet, baseball! Girls w...

Baseball Without Borders: October 2009

http://baseballwithoutborders.blogspot.com/2009_10_01_archive.html

Tuesday, October 20, 2009. Photo from http:/ www.ericenders.com/wib.htm. This evening, I was checking one of my favorite baseball sites. To see if I could find inspiration for a post. I didn't find it there, exactly, but was led to a bit of wikipedia surfing by my curiosity about the Baseball World Cup. At the bottom of the page, I found a link to the Women's Baseball World Cup. I am shocked I haven't heard of or found out about this before! Will you look at that? A national baseball league for women.

Baseball Without Borders: A Whole Lotta Ugly

http://baseballwithoutborders.blogspot.com/2009/10/whole-lotta-ugly.html

Thursday, October 8, 2009. A Whole Lotta Ugly. What an ugly game. I think the best word to describe Game 1 of the Sox-Angels ALDS is FAIL. Above all, this game was a prime example of the Umpire Fail. The umpiring was a joke, reminiscent of the 1999 ALCS. What baseball fan, who saw those plays, could actually believe that C.B. Bucknor missed the call? Not the people who know that he's a horrible umpire. Major League players voted him the worst umpire in 2003. He was awarded the title again. Pitching was f...

Baseball Without Borders: September 2009

http://baseballwithoutborders.blogspot.com/2009_09_01_archive.html

Thursday, September 24, 2009. Baseball Love meets Book Love. I was just trying to catch up with my google reader list (467 items! And came across a story. The NY Times blog about books), about Novel-T. A company that makes literary-themed baseball t-shirts. Has a clever fantasy team roster up, with Hester Prynne at first, Thoreau in right field, and Sawyer on second (you'd think he'd be convincing his friends what fun it is there and once accomplished, he'd nudge Huck Finn out of the shortstop position!

Grace on the Go: Book Review: The Belgium & Netherlands Coffee Guide

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2012/10/book-review-belgium-netherlands-coffee.html

Grace on the Go. Wednesday, October 3, 2012. Book Review: The Belgium and Netherlands Coffee Guide. Weeks ago, I found out about a recent publication: The Belgium and Netherlands Coffee Guide. I spent about 30 seconds trying to decide whether it was worth the investment, than threw the decision-making out the window, went with my gut, and ordered it. I am not going to get any work done today! And ripped the paper away with more excitement than most kids with their birthday presents. When I ordered this b...

Grace on the Go: Snowflakes

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2009/12/this-morning-i-went-with-roman-to-take.html

Grace on the Go. Saturday, December 19, 2009. This morning, I went with Roman to take Ema sledding. (No, the picture I've posted has nothing to do with the entry, but it's Prague looking pretty at Christmastime. What more could you ask for? We got all bundled up because it's -7 (that's 19 degrees Fahrenheit) or something out there (it was -10 earlier but we waited and it got a teeny bit warmer). We trudged out - don't you love that crunching sound of snow beneath your feet? Praha draped in snow for Chris...

Grace on the Go: March 2010

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

Grace on the Go. Wednesday, March 10, 2010. Apologies to my thousands (not) of faithful (heh heh) readers for allowing this blog to be so dead lately. I've had lots of good post ideas floating around in my head the past two months, but I always get them when I'm out walking or doing something, and then never get around to sitting down and typing it out and actually posting it. They usually get eliminated before anyone can start rooting for them in the first place. On the other hand, why would we root...

Grace on the Go: Binge Baking

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2013/01/binge-baking.html

Grace on the Go. Sunday, January 6, 2013. I love to bake. I do bake a lot, however, when I get to housesit for my parents. My parents went on a short trip a couple of months ago; I spent the week baking. I started by mentioning to my mother, before she left, that I wanted to try to make biscotti. Oh, good idea! She said. "Are you going to make Aunt Victoria's biscotti? Maybe," I shrugged. "What book is that in? Oh" I said. Then, "OOOooohhhhh, that. Which has become a fast favorite in my family for the se...

Grace on the Go: June 2012

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Grace on the Go. Tuesday, June 12, 2012. It's been about a year and a half since I last posted something on this blog. I've thought about reviving it, many times, but then I never know where to start. An idea comes to me when I'm out and about, but then it seems awkward to sit down, write something, and publish it after such a gap. But then, breaks are natural occurrences, and really, who cares. The hell with it, as my grandfather. Likes to remind me. And, oh yeah,. But working in this cafe has given me ...

Grace on the Go: Coffee Culture Comparison

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2008/07/coffee-culture-comparison.html

Grace on the Go. Saturday, July 26, 2008. Working in a cafe in the Netherlands has led me to several observations about the differences between cafes and coffee culture in Europe and the U.S. - specifically differences between the Pacific Northwest's dedicated coffee diehards. And the Netherlands more simple (it seems) maintenance of tradition. One of the most notable differences between coffee consumption in the Netherlands and Stumptown. Is the way it's taken. Coffee is traditionally a social activity&...

Grace on the Go: October 2012

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html

Grace on the Go. Sunday, October 21, 2012. Book Review: My Berlin Kitchen. It has been a strange year in books and reading, for me. It began as a year to start reading again – I read all of 10 books in 2011 – and then became a year to read a more ambitiously. I have too many books for someone who isn’t settled in one place. I am also a firm believer in passing books on, unless they are particularly sentimental or beautiful editions.). And tell Grace to come, too! Luisa Weiss was (and I mean this in the b...

Grace on the Go: Two Little Things

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2012/08/two-little-things.html

Grace on the Go. Friday, August 3, 2012. Hmmm another gap, this time shorter. Whoops! Two reasons for this; the first is that I'm not used to paying attention to little things that I might blog about - I stopped doing that years ago (I can't believe that's actually true! Things certainly happen, wonderful little things that might make a couple of nice entries, but I miss them. I have to work on that. The second reason is that boring old reason - "I've been busy.". And now it's on my bulletin board. One o...

Grace on the Go: Cures for Homesickness

http://grace-on-the-go.blogspot.com/2009/11/cures-for-homesickness.html

Grace on the Go. Saturday, November 14, 2009. Lately, I've been a little homesick. Not miserably so; far from it. I'm pretty happy here, but it's hard to settle in to a new place in a bigger city when you've just spent three years in a small town where almost everyone knows almost everyone else and where you practically live with all of your friends and classmates. Betsy and the Great World. By Maud Hart Lovelace. Les Demoiselles de Rochefort. A film with music by Michel Legrand - or the. Sometimes I jus...

Grace on the Go. Wednesday, November 17, 2010. More Updating (and a fun matching game! It has been very easy for me to stop blogging. Still, it is not something that I want to quit. As a matter of fact, I often get ideas for blog entries, but then I feel it would be strange to post them after such a gap. So instead, what you get is a random entry every few months with an assortment of pictures to illustrate my goings-on. So, without any more waiting.
