BIRDING DEVOTEE: June 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Monday, June 29, 2015. I just had a White-Breasted Nuthatch visit my feeders! We were finishing up moving things around because of squirrels (grrrr.) and my husband was up against the window when I looked out and saw it on the feeder stand! I exclaimed that I had yet to see one, and right then it flew to the top of the shepherd's hook. That is where I snapped these few not-very-good photos. But. it was very exciting! Now I have to change my 'Most Wanted to See." in the sidebar.

BIRDING DEVOTEE: August 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Friday, August 28, 2015. August Sightings (Part Two). So I will start off this post at Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge. It is one of my favorite spots to visit. For the wildlife and also for the Beach which is rarely crowded. You have to pay an admission to visit there, so. less people go. Fine with me! NEXT year I will get an Annual Pass! So without further ado, let's see more! Well, lookit here! It's another Great Blue Heron! I got better shots here. It posed for me! This pictu...

BIRDING DEVOTEE: April 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Sunday, April 26, 2015. So much to report! I will start by saying that the new feeders are working quite well, and have reduced the number of grackles and starlings that come to pig out! All the 'regulars' have figured out where the food is, and are coming by daily. Here are some snaps:. You looking at ME? Feeling right at home. The squirrel seems content to just feed off the spillage. And so do the finches sometimes. The chickadee approve of the new feeders. King of the feeder!

BIRDING DEVOTEE: March 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Friday, March 27, 2015. I have been either dragging or over-busy, and just haven't been posting to my blogs. Maybe because technically it IS Spring, but. the weather is wacky, and I'm just not feeling it. So, I get down in the dumps. being cooped up in the house, for what seems like forever! I had my husband all excited about making me a feeder stand (? But if that doesn't work. what more can I do? So, I did get out one time this month for birding, and went to a local park with a l...

BIRDING DEVOTEE: May 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Tuesday, May 19, 2015. It's been a LONG month between posts. I intended to post earlier. really I did! I left you all hanging, saying there was something happening in my neighborhood. Well, across the street from us, our neighbors had SEVEN very tall pine trees removed from their yard. These were the trees the grackles and starlings stayed in. so you know what that means? Even further reduction of the 'nuisance' bird population! Getting the crane ready. Medium sized log taken down.

BIRDING DEVOTEE: A Mixed Bag...

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-mixed-bag.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Tuesday, August 4, 2015. Still hot here. So am not seeing as many 'unusual' birds, just House Finches and the occasional Cardinal or Carolina Chickadee. However, we took a little trip to the mountains in western Maryland recently, and I saw 'new' birds! The weather there is so much cooler, we love it! Here are my snaps from a trip to the local Natural Area I visited around the 24th of July:. I spotted a Yellow-Crowned Night Herons! And did I mention the red eyes? Such a pretty bird.

BIRDING DEVOTEE: January 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Saturday, January 31, 2015. Well, after a gentle coaching from a friend, I have identified the two Mystery Birds from last post. One is a Yellow-Rumped Warbler and one is a Pine Warbler. The big mistake I was making was missing the shape of the beaks! Here is the Yellow-Rumped Warbler:. See the yellow at the 'shoulders' above the wing feathers? And the 'stripes' on the tummy are part of the identifying marks. You can kind of see the pointy beak here. but. Moving into how the Yellow...

BIRDING DEVOTEE: February 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Saturday, February 28, 2015. Well, I think the snow is over for a while! We had pretty much two snow falls in two weeks. This last one we got about six inches! My post is going to mostly be about all the 'regulars' coming to visit after the snow. Like clockwork, they came to nibble away. In anticipation, I put a new suet cake out for them- peanut flavor this time! Boy, everyone is liking it! They rarely come up from the ground, so this is a rare sight. Two Pine Warblers now- check!

BIRDING DEVOTEE: July 2015

http://birdingdevotee.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html

130 hot bliggity blog. Sunday, July 12, 2015. I do not get out much when it is so hot and humid, and it stinks! I am glad I have the birds visiting ME! But I did get out to a new local park to go birding a couple of weeks ago. Hubby asked if I wanted to pack a lunch and go birding at a park he knew about. so off we went! But after about ten minutes of walking, his feet started to hurt so we had to quit. I know where it is now. it was on my list! Then he moved too quickly and the bird flew off! He is not ...
