October 11, 2014. D has started Year 12. I think I’m going to take up serious drinking. In fact, I don’t know why Liquorland doesn’t have a discount card for HSC parents, it would be a marketing goldmine. I’ve given her the pep talk. We started off strong, she even did some study on day one. Now if we can just get through the next 364 days we’ll be sweet. There’s a site which interviewed successful Australians about their final year at school called There’s Life After. My fault Lost school book? I will c...

What's a Perfect Life? - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2012/02/03/whats-a-perfect-life
What’s a Perfect Life? February 3, 2012. How would you define a perfect life? Then how would you get it? There’s a blog called Inspiration and Chai. Where a former palliative care worker has created a book called The Top Five Regrets of the Dying. Bronnie Ware, in her work with the dying found there were five themes running through their list of regrets as life drew to a close. I wish I’d had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me. I wish I didn’t work so hard.

Reading This Week – The Happiest Refugee – Anh Do. January 5, 2012. In Australia there is a long-running debate on what to do about asylum seekers. In particular, the people who pay money to people smugglers to take to the open sea in a bid to seek refuge in Australia. It’s a political hot-potato, with the issue whipped into a frenzy by a variety of shock-jocks and media commentators. It’s a complex and emotive situation on both sides of the argument. The following years are no picnic. The courageous...

Eight Things I’m Dreading About My Daughter Starting High School. August 16, 2012. We are heading into the tail end of the year (how fast are the months flying by? It’s one of those years with a “chapter closing”. You know the type, a life stage when you do things for “the last time”, when you know you won’t be going back. 1 There will be no more gathering with the gaggle of mums outside the classrooms. While I’ve done less and less of that lately there has still been the odd chance to catch up...3 The k...

We Survived The First Christmas - Shambolic Living
http://shambolicliving.com/2014/12/26/survived-first-christmas
We Survived The First Christmas. December 26, 2014. Well we got through it. The first Christmas without you. There was the usual chaos. Hippie Child was tasked with recreating your famous potato salad the one that you’ve served up every year since we’ve been in Port Macquarie to great compliments from the family. There was some pressure. I forgot to buy the bacon. I thought there was a chance I could be joining you. 8220;I CAN’T MAKE IT WITHOUT THE BACON”. Princess Child’s very expensive camera was...

So Things Got A Little Freaky. January 21, 2015. Talk about signs, this one was a bit out there. I’m trying to get this bloody house finished so I was googling renderers to finish the brickwork, there was one there called Simon Williams (how weird that he would have your name)! The only one who called backed? You guessed it. Simon Williams. I started with “my husband was owner building our house but last year he drowned in a rock fishing accident and …. 8220;Well yes, it was”. Mamma’s Don’t Let Your Kids...

One Down One Up 12/09/2014. September 14, 2014. Publishing Late oops. Sorry Chrystina. Soft Shell Crab at The Rivermark Cafe. It was a far better week this week. However, as is usual when you are living with a hailstorm of grief, the best of times can be the worst of times (sorry Dickens). Hippie Child’s team won their soccer grand final. It was thrilling and joyous. Yet now the happiest of times comes tinged with a little sadness as somebody is missing from the celebrations. Laquo; We Did It. Janine Fit...

Take Me Out to the Ballgame - It's So Suburban
http://itssosuburban.com/2012/08/03/take_me_out_to_the_ballgame/index.html
It's So Suburban. Take Me Out to the Ballgame. August 3, 2012. Last night was Calvin’s first Royals game. He loves baseball, but was frankly more interested in the “TVs” (scoreboard/Crown Vision), “guy playing guitar” (the Garth Brooks. Friends in Low Places. Sing-along — klassy) and “hot dogs! On our way into the stadium, we made sure to get a picture of the legacy brick that my sister, mom and I got my dad for Father’s Day. Have had something to do with that). Calvin got to hear. Have a great weekend!
