Bec Cain – a teacher librarian with a passion for young adult fiction
A teacher librarian with a passion for young adult fiction. TRBWA Portfolio of Evidence. Over the last two years, I have read very little – a bit embarrassing seeing as I’m in the business of books. All my free time was devoted to my studies, but as they’re now finished I thought I’d get involved in the GoodReads Reading Challenge. January 15, 2018. A few months ago I stumbled upon a blog post from Melbourne High School. Here, Catherine talks about being inspired by the Unquiet Librarian. Finally, I appr...

The Smiling Coast of Africa
The Smiling Coast of Africa. These are my personal views, opinions, and ramblings and do not necessarily reflect those of the United States government or The Peace Corps. Monday, July 07, 2008. Good Night and Good Luck. And culture. It is mentally exhausting to live here and emotionally I am so looking forward to going home and not having to analyze every comment or action and constantly be on guard against sexual harassment. It has been challenging, but I definitely. Posted by Becca @ 3:28 PM. The last ...

Why NOT live in Africa? Saturday, January 1, 2011. I'm too lazy to type a full blog tonight, so I'm stealing an exerpt from another people's blogs. We've all been hanging out a lot so we're doing a lot of the same things. This is from my good friend Julia's blog (pretty much the only blog I try to read. It's hilarious.). Spent more money on pizza than on where I was staying! New Years is Parakou. I'm going back to post tomorrow - I've been gone a while and I'm excited to get back. 4/ Old America Clothes ...

Thursday, June 28, 2012. Skirt: c/o Flourish Boutique. This heat is truly unbarable. When I was sixteen and a size 0, I didn't have to worry about wearing something that covered me tastefully. But as I mature, I'm no longer interested in wearing the shortest of shorts and the tightest of tank tops. So how do I stay cool? Be sure to check out Will Sullivan Photography. Tuesday, January 19, 2016. Hahahahah, get it? You're right, I'm not that funny. Yesterday I had to describe to my good Guatemalan friend Joselyn about MLK Jr Day and it was a little hard to describe in Spanish. But he was a good dude who helped a lot of people! Anyways, this week has been awesome and wicked cold. And then warm, and then cold again! Sunday night our member drove us in a snowstorm to go teach Maria in preparation for her baptism this Saturday. It was awesome and a tad bit sketchy! I know t...

Sunday, May 8, 2011. Joy, Joy, Joy. While I was home I was having a bible study with my friends Mike and Anton on the final instructions Paul gives to the Thessalonians. Paul urges with simple and direct commands: “Rejoice always (other versions say ‘Be joyful always”), pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thess. 5:16-18). Be joyful always. Monday, February 28, 2011. Love in our loving of others. Confusing, right? By Christopher L...

COSTA RI(bec)CA!
Random thoughts, notes, observations, musings, photos, images, and snapshots of Rebecca's life as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Costa Rica from March 2009 to May 2011. Thursday, June 9, 2011. Days earlier I had said farewell to my community of Copey. It was there that I spent two years and made a mark - or a dent. As least, I had hoped. Afterall, that's why we embark on such adventures, right? As I look back on this freshly completed experience, I wonder if I was successful? Is this the point of Peace Corps?
