Bees 1.0 (the blog)
Bees 1.0 (the blog). Mostly notes on my hive inspections. Occasionally other stuff. Saturday, September 15, 2012. 9/15 - today's inspection. I checked up on both of my Gainesville hives today. I've got good news and less good news. Plan: I'll give them two weeks and if they're not clearly back on track I'll give them a frame of brood from my hill hive. Plan: next inspection I should be prepared for two things- 1) there's a chance these bees will take another honey super this fall and 2) I need to bring a...

Mead - Bees!
http://bees.1point0.net/mead
Notes, Lessons Learned, Theories, etc. Bees 1.0, the blog! The brew that launched a thousand ships! Or at least this guy's interest in bees. Anyway, if you're not familiar with mead the simplest way to describe it is "honey wine". Mix honey with water, add some yeast, wait a few months and viola! OK, that's a bit of an oversimplification) There's tons of epic history behind this drink and it seems to be intertwined with human history in many locations around the world. Apr 27, 2012, 5:41 AM.

Notes, Lessons Learned, Theories, etc. Bees 1.0, the blog! Notes, Lessons Learned, Theories, etc. Or "the transition from bee have-er to bee keeper". Shortly after starting this page I realized some of the content that was starting to go here felt more blog-ish. So I've spun off an accompanying blog. Inspection Checklist (under development). Queen Presence / Health. Find eggs in worker cells? Any interesting queen cells on frames? Note to Susan Harris, a fellow beekeeper who helped me with some hive insp...

Bees 1.0 (the blog). Mostly notes on my hive inspections. Occasionally other stuff. Thursday, May 31, 2012. Super on the hill hive. On my lunch break today, 5/31, I popped by the house and put a medium super on the hill hive! This is a pretty exciting event in my young beekeeping career- expanding the colony I was so worried wouldn't make it. Interlachen - defensive hive. Tropical Storm Beryl and other weather/climate notes. Also, lots of brood in both colonies. Took out the beetle blaster to clean and f...
Bees 1.0 (the blog): Catch and release swarm
http://blog.bees.1point0.net/2012/07/catch-and-release-swarm.html
Bees 1.0 (the blog). Mostly notes on my hive inspections. Occasionally other stuff. Sunday, July 8, 2012. Catch and release swarm. After cooling off we went back out to check on the captured swarm. They were nowhere to be found and the nuc box was empty. There was a pretty good clump or beard of bees under the parent hive, but not enough to account for the swarm. We searched the trees nearby for awhile looking for our missing bees with no success. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Bees 1.0 (the blog). Mostly notes on my hive inspections. Occasionally other stuff. Saturday, August 4, 2012. 8/4 Gville hive inspection. Overall her brood pattern is relatively uneven, but she's still young - she's only been laying for 3 weeks at most, so hopefully this will improve. Worth noting that this hive continues to have a concerning number of beetles. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). I'm a first-year hobby beekeeper in FL. Bees 1.0 (the blog). Mostly notes on my hive inspections. Occasionally other stuff. Saturday, September 15, 2012. 9/15 - Always playing catch-up with the blog. Again I've missed a couple posts, so I'll try to dump what I can recall and then I'll cover today's G'ville hive inspections in a separate post. I did a quick inspection of my pink hive. Went to Interlachen. John and I swapped the screen bottom board out of the white hive. Seemed a little light on overall population, but there was some nice brood ...
