Copenhagen’s Fortifications was built and reinforced on land and at sea from 1858 to 1918, forming a ring of defence around Copenhagen. Today, the fortifications are well-camouflaged by dense vegetation and decay, which also reflects is position as forgotten in the minds of Danes.

Årligt arrangement på Københavns Befæstning. Omkring København ligger en af Europas største og bedst bevarede storbybefæstninger fra tiden inden 1. verdenskrig. Den overvejende del af befæstningen opførtes i årene 1886-1894, medens en del opførtes mellem 191 0. Befæstningen ligger i en ring rundt om København og består af en 14 km. land enceinte (Vestvolden), et antal forter og batterier til både land- og søsiden. Befæstningsdagen har været afholdt på den sidste søndag i september siden 2000.
